MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Thank you, Denzel Washington, for coming to visit our students at Denzel Washington School of the Arts! We are so appreciative of you, and the students are proud to attend a school with your name on it. Showing support to our District means the world to us, and you are always welcome to visit and continue to inspire our scholars. Your words of wisdom left a lasting impression on the students.
Mount Vernon STEAM Academy has developed fantastic students over the years, and this year’s valedictorian and salutatorian are no exception. Damaris Ferrer and Margaret Djamangue have accomplished so much during their time in the District, and I am impressed with their continued success. They’ve worked hard to earn acceptances into outstanding universities and scholarship opportunities, and I know they will go far in their studies and careers!
Last weekend, we held the Super Health and Wellness Block Party, and I was happy to see so many people from the community come out and learn about healthy living. We encourage our students to make smart decisions about their health, and it is great to see their families working to support their health as well. Thank you to all the organizations who came and provided valuable resources and information to our community; we are so glad to have your support. Families can find more information at our Parent Resource Center at Mount Vernon STEAM Academy.
This week, I had the honor of awarding the Principal of the Year Award to Pennington Principal Dr. Melissa White and the Knight Light Award to Marybeth Rhodes, the Director of Humanities. These two exceptional educators have done amazing work for our scholars and truly deserve this recognition! Keep up the great work!
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
