Weekly Update to Families
November 15, 2024
Brief Message From the Principal
We had a great week of learning and leading here at Altoona Elementary! In this update you will find the following:
- Iowa School Performance Profile
- November Nice! Food Drive!
- Pajama Drive
- PTA Updates
Thank you for sharing your children with us! It is a pleasure to partner with you to realize the best possible education. We are better together! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or feedback. I know we are on the same page in wanting our students to be as safe as possible and for our school to be the best it can be! Together, let's be the change! Our students deserve that of us!
🎉 ATTENDANCE MATTERS! We need our students at school every day! 🏆
Respectfully,
- Mr. Miller
The Iowa School Performance Profiles is an online tool showing how public schools performed on required measures. The website was developed to meet both federal and state requirements for publishing online school report cards: The federal Every Student Succeeds Act and House File 215 (ESSA), adopted by Iowa lawmakers in 2013.
The website includes:
- Scores on school accountability measures required under ESSA
- Ratings based on those scores: Exceptional, High Performing, Commendable, Acceptable, Needs Improvement, and Priority
- Identification of schools for support and improvement based on accountability scores (Comprehensive and Targeted schools)
- Additional education data that must be reported by law but do not figure into school accountability scores
Here is how Altoona Elementary scored. We are proud of our efforts all around... our students, our staff, and our supportive families. By continuing to partner, we will continue to do great things for our students.
November Nice! Food Drive!
Hello Southeast Polk Rams!
This is Evelyn and Graysan and we are part of the Community Service Cabinet. We wanted to give you some details about the Food Drive that will be starting Monday, Nov.11th and ending Nov. 19th. Each grade level has been assigned specific items and we will be working together to collect these items. Every morning the Community Service Cabinet will be around to collect the items. We will post a blue and white sign outside your classroom with your total on and we will add to it daily. Your class will also need to set a goal - A Big Rock/Wildly Important Goal! As you meet that goal, we will post a star or turkey (we haven't worked out that detail yet), showing that you met the goal and asking you to set a new goal.
The grade level that collects the most assigned items will win a popcorn party! The class that meets the most goals (i.e. if you set 3 and met them all but another class met 2 - the class with 3 wins) will win an additional prize.
We are working with the RAM SHOP and items for the food drive will be available to purchase with RAMS tickets starting next week. The item purchased will go to the classroom that is trying to bring that item and count towards their total. If it is an item for your grade level, students can take it to their own classroom and use it towards their total.
Please have your items stacked either close to your door or outside so we don't interrupt your class. You will find a gold star or turkey in your mailbox on Monday to post your first goal. All the food collected will be displayed in the cafeteria and then delivered to Caring Hands to help families!
Thank you for participating in the Food Drive! Work hard to get items and help Caring Hands!
If you have questions, ask one of the Community Service Cabinet members:
Evelyn S., Graysan H., Kendall L., Peyton S., Siah C., Owen H., Addy F., Kristina L.
Love the Community Service Cabinet,
Evelyn and Graysan
