January 2025
From the Principal
Happy New Year, Jefferson Families!
I do hope your family had a lovely holiday season, and that 2025 is off to positive start!
As we have returned to school, a huge point of emphasis this week and next is on our Charger Code. At various points of the year, we take intentional time to teach the four core expectations of our code, and the return to school in January is one of those keys times. This poster shows the code:
This week and next, teachers are taking their classes all over the school to teach lessons on what it looks and sounds like to be safe, respectful, responsible and kind. Expectations for the following are covered:
- Morning Arrival
- Bathrooms
- Hallways and Entryways
- Waiting In Line (Bus, Parent Pick-up)
- Cafeteria
- Playground
Each lesson contains "the why" for the expectation, the expected behaviors, and visuals to support the instruction. You are more than welcome to support us by reviewing these expectations with your child. Every little bit helps! We know that when expectations are taught and reinforced with consistency and fidelity, the likelihood of students being successful with the expectations increases. Click here to access a family copy of the presentation and lessons we use.
Once again, Happy New Year. Let's make 2025 is your best year yet!
Kind regards,
Steve Hopkins

Important Safety Reminders
Parking Lot Reminders:
Let’s remember as adults to be examples to our students by displaying patience, courtesy and respect.
- Stay in your car if you’re in the parent pick-up line
- Pull up closely to the car in front of you if you’re in the parent pick-up line
- You MUST be in a marked parking stall if you plan to exit your vehicle
- You may not park in the handicapped, police or secretary parking without the legal placard or parking pass
- Do not double park or park at any curb
- Do not park behind any car parked in a stall
- Adults and children both need to use the crosswalks every time
After School Supervision:
We have noticed students unsupervised after school. From our student handbook...
- Students who ride the bus are to go directly to the kindergarten corral and line up by bus route.
- Students who are picked up by car are to go directly to the pick-up area and wait in lines by grade level. Students are to be picked up by 3:40 p.m.
- Students who walk are to go directly home, and are not allowed to play on the playground or fields until they have been home to get permission, and then only after 4:00 p.m.
There is no adult supervision provided after 3:40 p.m., so it is not safe for students to be picked up later. If your child chooses to stay after dismissal and play at the playground, guardians must stay to supervise their child.
Recognition For Jefferson!
Last spring, we were notified by the state education department that Jefferson was recognized in the 2022-23 school year as a "State Recognized School" for high growth in English/Language Arts and Math proficiency rates, high English/Language Arts and Math Student growth, and high growth in regular attendance by one or more student groups. At that time, we were told a banner would be coming. It finally arrived in early December. We got a quick picture with some fifth graders before break, and you will see this banner as you come into the office. Way to go students, staff, families and volunteers!
News From The Gym
Hello Jefferson Families,
Jefferson has an amazing opportunity starting after Winter Break in January! Cascade Bike Club, the largest cycling club in the state, has donated a set of bicycles and Razor Scooters to Everett Public Schools to be used in Physical Education classrooms. Kindergarten, first and second grade students will be focusing on scooter skills and safety, while third, fourth and fifth grades will focus on bicycling. This donation is an amazing opportunity for all of our students to not only learn how to ride a scooter or bike and to practice, but also to learn about bike and scooter safety.
Please make sure your student is dressed to ride with comfortable clothing and sneakers in January. Please no Crocs or boots during the cycling/scooter unit.
If you have any questions about the curriculum or about the program, please feel free to reach out.
If you would like more information, please go to https://cascade.org/lets-go to learn more!

Coaching Corner
Welcome Back Jefferson Families!
We hope that students have had a restful break and are ready to jump back into learning!
This month student’s will take their middle of the year i-Ready diagnostic in both reading and math. These diagnostics determine your child’s proficiency with the many learning standards they will progress through during the school year.
The diagnostic sets the learning pathway for each child as lessons begin with students current proficiency and build upon one another in each content area.
If you’d like to know more about how your student is progressing through their individual i-Ready learning pathway, you can follow the steps below to view their Lesson Stats.
- Ask your student to log into i-Ready from home by going to everettsd.org and clicking on “students” and then the i-Ready icon.
- Choose a subject (Reading or Math) and then click the green arrow . From there, you can see your students Time On-Task and Lessons Passed. Click on the Completed Work button to see completed lessons and the pass rate for each lesson.

The Dentist Is Coming - February 20th
Great News! Your child can get dental care at their school.
Best of all, in most cases there is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid or CHIP! Private insurance and affordable self-pay options are also available.
Easy & Convenient
Having your child seen by the in-school dentist saves you valuable time. Top quality care is provided by local, licensed dentists right in the familiar surroundings of your child’s school. Dental care includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when needed. Restorative care, such as fillings, may also be provided.
