🐺 Weekly Howl 🐺
What an incredible week of kindness and joy. The week began with approximately 20 students engaging in SLAM - Student Led Anti-Racist Movement. They shared heart-felt stories and experiences, built community, and really inspired hope for the future. We still have space available for interested students in the next session. For more information and permission slip, please see this document: SLAM Information Sheet, or contact Ms. Miller in Room 201 (vmiller@slzusd.org).
The students were so thoughtful throughout the Holiday Gift Shop, thinking of friends and family as they shopped. Thursday we saw a Thursday Thrill Day with a full lunch period of fun games and activities AND the movie night was well-attended, and surely the beginning of a new tradition! Huge thanks to WMMS PTSA and Leadership for being such incredible culture creators and giving our students such memorable ways to engage at school.
This week is end of the second quarter, and grades should come out in mid-January. If you have questions or concerns regarding your student's grade or classroom performance, please contact their teacher, or your student's counselor:

Parents and guardians, please take a moment to encourage your child to make healthier snack choices and to remind them that selling food at school is prohibited.

COVID Protocols (as of 1/29/24)
- Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND your other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.
- Mask when you are around other people indoors for 10 days* after you become sick or test positive (if you have no symptoms). You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two negative tests at least one day apart.
- Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days*. Higher-risk individuals include the elderly and those who live in congregate care facilities.
- Seek treatment. If you have symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as soon as you test positive, especially if you are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
