A Message From the Principal
Dear Parents,
The school days are quickly passing, but they are not over. We are incredibly busy at Discovery. Students and teachers are working right up to the very end, making use of every minute they have. Kindergarten students say they had a great day at the beach and first and second graders are going to the zoo soon. It feels fantastic to be planning field trips after 2 1/2 years of not being able to do so. Principal Don Sims and Jill Dornan will be coming from Hedden to meet our second graders later this month. Second graders are looking forward to learning about their new school.
During the week of 5/31-6/7 we will be giving the DIBELS reading assessment to all students. We use this assessment to measure reading growth over time and to assess school progress. Please look for results to come home around June 13th or 14th.
One of my favorite times of the year is our Field Day. It’s a great time to celebrate our year’s efforts and to enjoy playing together. We would love to have parents join us for this event. Please look for information from your child's teacher for times.
This is my last newsletter as Principal of Discovery Primary School. It has truly been a wonderful journey partnering with the families in Fife/Milton for 35 years. I wish you all a wonderful summer and hope your child's continued school journey is special.
Sincerely,
Julie Bartlett
Meet Discovery's New Principal
Hello, my name is Sarah Edwards and I am excited to be the incoming principal! I came to Discovery two years ago as the Assistant Principal when we as a global community began experiencing some of the most challenging moments in our lives. I touch on this, because we learned, even more, the value of relationships and connections.
I taught for 15 years and bring an additional 5 years of administrative experience, 4 of which in primary schools, to Discovery. The starting point for all of my work as an educator, has and will continue to be, focused on relationships and interactions of the school community, because these relationships are what builds, supports, and embraces all of us when life is challenging. It is our understanding, or lack of, that becomes conversations and connections. When I am not at school, you may find me outdoors in nature riding my bike, hiking a trail with family or friends, or playing with my dogs. I have a deep belief that happiness is found in the balance of life and nature. Over the next weeks and months, I encourage you to seek me out, introduce yourself, ask questions, and have grace as the school transitions. Discovery Primary is a great school and will continue to grow in its ability to be both your family’s education ally and advocate.
