There are many critical decisions that need to be made this year, and we invite you to take an active role in those decisions. Eighth grade is a time to prepare for the responsibilities of high school and the more long term goal of lifelong learning. This year, the academic expectations and workload will increase in preparation for meeting these goals.
We look forward to supporting you throughout the year and the upcoming HS process. We are here to cover the best ways to navigate this incredibly important year, and how to come out ready for success in high school and beyond.
The exam has four sections designed to measure a student's skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Mathematics. Students are presented with questions requiring knowledge of algebra, number sense and operations, geometry, statistics and probability, data analysis, and measurement.
- Reading. Students are asked to read a series of texts and answer questions that gauge their comprehension of facts and their ability to evaluate and interpret information.
- Written Expression. To answer these questions, students are required to demonstrate grammar and editing skills as well as a knowledge of how to best express ideas in writing.
- Ability. This part of the exam measures a student's reasoning and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on spatial and creative thinking.

SHS offers a TACHS prep course to students that begins in late September. Information to enroll for this course coming soon.
