March 2024
Our March Value is Friendship
Bonneville Priorities
- To ensure our children are happy and we explain things well

- To enhance the educational experiences of diagnosed and undiagnosed children with SEND
a message from Ms Parker...
March has proved itself to be the busiest month so far. We just haven't stopped!
From Spanish Week, to world Book day, International Women's Day, Science Week and Enterprise Week. Not to mention the topic exhibition, dress up days, class assemblies and the year 3 and 4 performance.
This morning we ended the term with our iconic Easter Bonnet Parade, with special guest Bonneville Bunny. Lot's of fun was had parading our headwear and creating music.
There has just been so many reasons to be involved with the school.
Thank you for keeping up, and thank you all for your attendance.
Well done to all of our children for their hard work, and thank you to all staff for your support, flexibility and dedication. You all deserve a well earned rest.
Wishing you all a happy, safe and enjoyable Spring break.
See you on the gate when we return.
Easter Bonnet Parade 2024
World Book Day
At Bonneville we love to dress up, and World Book day was no different. To celebrate our love of reading, the children enjoyed coming to school dressed up as their favourite book characters.
How many characters do you recognise?
Support the return of our cooking curriculum
Topics next term be prepared...
This year, we celebrated International Women's Day with an assembly celebrating the role of women in our society, and another round of phenominal women from a variety of industries sharing their careers and experiences with our children.
Thank you to all the volunteers who got involved. You contributions have helped us expand the children's experiences and knowledge and acceptance of what is possible.
Have a look at the variety of careers the children explored

Top questions to ask your child this month!
What Art/DT word of the week has your child been learning?
Year 1- primary colours Year 4- scenic
Year 2- strokes Year 5- focal point
Year 3- pneumatic Year 6- asymmetric
Please rienforce the learning by asking your child/ren what it means.
Curriculum Spotlight!
This month we shine a light on Science
Children are naturally curious. Science at primary school nurtures this curiosity and allows children to ask questions and develop the skills they need to answer those questions.
Primary science helps pupils to:
- Investigate problems.
- Learn how science works.
- Discover why science matters in the world.
Our science curriculum has been designed so that each unit can be related through cross curricular links to the Creative Curriculum topic taught each term. By providing these links, the intent is that children gain real life examples and context to their Science learning.
Each unit begins by researching a prominent scientist in that particular field. Children research the work of the scientist, how they became a scientist and the impact of their work. This links to our possibilities driver, the aim of which is to provide children with a feeling that a career in Science is possible for anyone with an interest and one that they can achieve.
Key vocabulary is taught throughout each unit and referenced in each lesson with children given the opportunity to use the vocabulary in context independently. In addition to the unit vocabulary there are 6 ‘Word of the Week’ which have been identified and selected to help in the process of closing the vocabulary gap.
Each unit should consist of 6 lessons. 3 lessons will be taught on alternate weeks for a whole afternoon the final 3 will be taught on a Science Day at the end of the half term. The first lesson should involve researching the work and impact of the scientist for the unit. An introductory hook activity should also be included to engage the children and introduce term’s learning in a practical way. Teaching science through an enquiry based approach, each unit should Include a practical investigation. The remaining lessons in each half term are used to cover the skills and knowledge outlined in the national curriculum statements.
Homework
Please help support your child with their spellings by looking at the spelling rules, sounds and patterns in each word. Practicing spellings daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word.
In KS1, children will need to choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children will need to write a sentence for each word, using neat, joined handwriting.
This will give the children the opportunity to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context and allow them to practice their handwriting.
All spelling books must be given the Class Teacher every Wednesday. This will ensure that your teacher has enough time to get the new spellings stuck in. Children will be doing a weekly spelling test in the back of their homework books so you will be able to see how well they are doing.
Spring Term Enterprise 'Floral Prints'
Our Enterprise theme this term was 'Floral Prints'.
On Wednesday 20th March, the children stepped into 'The Vault' to pitch for investment from Ms Parker. The twist this term, was for each pitcher to explain what the word 'profit' means. Following a successfull round of presentations, all year groups succesfully secured between £10 and £20 funding towards the set-up of their pop-up businesses.
On Friday 22nd March, all year groups sold their items at our Spring Marketplace. Thank you to you all for supporting our event as customers.
Now that all of the classes have returned their investment, the winning year group who made the most profit will be annouced in the next edition of the Buzz.
All funds raised at our termly Enterprise events, go towards a trip or workshop of the children's choice at the end of the year.
Sport at Bonneville
Lambeth Football League Update
The girls team have had a solid start to their league season winning 1, drawing 2 with one loss. They currently sit in mid table with 5 games in hand to play, which will potentially push us further up the table.
The girls also came 2nd in the Sports Fusion cup narrowly missing out on top spot by two goals, well done to our girls.
The mixed team are currently 8 out of 18 teams in the Lambeth schools league at Ferndale, Brixton in what has been a challenging season, so far. The season finishes on May 1, with us being 8 points behind the leaders, we still have hope.
FAB Update
FAB- Please get involved, more hands make light work!
FAB stands for Friends Association Bonneville.
Many, many parents are involved in enabling fundraising for our school. Thanks again to the FAB Office Team, for galvanising the community and keeping everyone updated through their wonderful Newsletters.
It is great to see new faces getting involved. A donation of 1 hour per term (that’s only 3 hours per year), of your time, is all that we ask. Whether it be class rep, planning/hosting an event or standing on a stall. Some parents very generously agree to host an event like our amazing wreath making workshop, or the gathering of donations for our incredible raffles. We always need more help and support. Every parent is a member of FAB. I ask that everyone gets involved.
Don't miss out on the next FAB event...

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential, is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.01am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase (see below)
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome...
3) You may raise your concerns with Ms Parker
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Ms Parker on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FAB but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
