BoosterThon Fun Run
Barstow Elementary School is hosting a FUN RUN Fundraiser November 18-22, 2024
Barstow Elementary is so excited to invite you to join our Community Business Partners program! As a Community Partner, you will be contributing to an incredible cause - the development of our future leaders! In return, we want to provide your business with maximum brand awareness in our community!
MTSS Behavior Matrix
Our MTSS Leadership team has worked diligently over the summer to develop a behavior matrix that upholds our values. In the first few weeks of school, teachers are explicitly teaching the expectations, engaging in meaningful conversations, and providing students with opportunities to practice. We will consistently review these expectations throughout the year.
Encourage students to share how they demonstrate respect, responsibility, and safety in their classroom and throughout the school. Additionally, discuss with your students how these behaviors might differ at home or in other non-school settings.
Choose to be Nice
Daily, both children and adults are presented with various choices to make.
This year, our school has adopted a program titled "Choose To Be Nice." With a straightforward yet impactful message, Choose To Be Nice aims to promote and inspire acts of kindness. The objective is to enhance interpersonal interactions by reminding individuals that they can choose their manner of being in the world. This begins with a pledge: "I promise to Choose To Be Nice and to spread kindness wherever and whenever possible."
The Choose To Be Nice School Program emphasizes nine values or character traits: respect, kindness, acceptance, teamwork, honesty, responsibility, friendship, patience, and courage. Each month, we will focus on one value, engaging in various learning activities, reading books, posing discussion questions, and more.
Respect
During the month of September, we are focusing on RESPECT. We show respect by being polite and showing consideration for others and their differences.
Here are some ways that you can continue the conversation about respect at home:

Covid Questions
Any positive staff/student must stay at home until symptoms have improved with no fever for at least 24 hours without medication. Those who are symptom free may attend school. Any staff/student returning to school after testing positive for COVID-19 are recommended to wear a mask for 10 days if able.
Staff and students regardless of vaccination status can attend school after exposure unless they develop symptoms. Those who can mask should do so for 10 days from the last day of exposure. A test at 3-5 days after exposure is recommended, especially for those who cannot mask. If symptoms develop, then follow recommendations for management of confirmed or suspected COVID-19
Parent Pick-up
To ensure your student(s) are added to the daily car rider list, please fill out the form below. This facilitates a smooth pick-up process and enables teachers to direct students to the correct dismissal area.
Surprise Car Riders
The parent/guardian should write a note with the child’s first and last name, teacher’s name and include on the note who will be picking up the child. In the case of an emergency, please call the main office prior to 3:30pm.
Parents are asked to park and come into the cafeteria, with ID to pick up students.
Cafeteria doors will open at 3:55pm
Students must be picked up by 4:15pm
Child Nutrition
Calvert County Public Schools participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs and offers nutritious meals every school day. Both breakfast and lunch service are available at all school locations. School meals offer a variety of food choices and meet nutrition standards established by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act and the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Elementary Cafeteria Prices
Breakfast $1.65
Lunch w/ Milk $2.80
Milk & Water $0.60
Free and/or Reduced Price Meal Eligibility (FARMs)
Some students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Eligibility is typically determined by household size and income. Household Meal Benefit Applications are sent home with each student at the beginning of the school year and are available on the school system website. Parents need only submit one application per household if they believe their children qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Please feel free to submit a Free and Reduced Meal Benefit Application any time during the year!
Students approved for meal benefits in SY24 will receive a 30-day carryover benefit period at the start of this school year, SY25
This 30 day period ends Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Please note that on October 10th, 2024, students who have not completed a new application or are in households not approved for meal benefits for the current school year will automatically be charged full price for all meals.
Volunteers and Visitors
Families are encouraged to become active participants in their child’s education. Throughout the school year, many opportunities are provided for family participation and involvement. All adults attending for special school-based events where adults will be interacting with the students that occur within the school day MUST be APPROVED VOLUNTEERS. This is to ensure the safety of all students since the adults will be within the school and engaging with all students within a classroom.
If you are visiting the school for business purposes such as, register, withdrawal, drop off medication, meet with a teacher for a conference, where you will not interact with the student population, you are not required to be an approved volunteer, but must be scanned through Raptor to ensure safety of all students and staff as a Visitor. You will be accompanied by a staff member during your time in the school.
Both Volunteers and Visitors are to report to the front office at the building you are visiting, be prepared to sign in with the Raptor registration system and wear a badge while on school grounds. During the instructional day, we request your support in fulfilling our responsibility to maintain a safe environment which is focused on learning and minimizes distractions. Classroom visits are to be scheduled in accordance with the CCPS visitation policy.
Become a Volunteer
Calvert County Public Schools uses Raptor for visitors and volunteers to sign in and sign out. All volunteers will need to review the volunteer handbook and watch the volunteer training video before completing an Online Volunteer Application. Volunteers must be approved before they may begin service as a volunteer in any school buildings. Please note, the procedures for policy 8123 states that all volunteers must be at least twenty-one years of age unless he/she is the parent of a child in school.
The Online Volunteer Application works best on a laptop or desktop computer. Completing an application on a mobile device will not properly submit and could cause an issue with your application being received and/or approved.
- Read the volunteer handbook.
- Watch the volunteer training video below.
- Complete the online application using a laptop or desktop computer.
Transportation
Bus Transportation
Calvert County Public Schools’ transportation services are available to every student enrolled in the school system. The Department of Transportation strives to provide economical and efficient transportation for all students which is safe, both physically and emotionally.
Here Comes the Bus Instructions
- For the Here Comes the Bus® app to work properly, please verify student transportation data. Parents & guardians are asked to visit Home Access Center (HAC) to verify student transportation data, specifically the "To School" and "From School" Stop Locations. This information can be found by clicking on the "registration" icon within HAC.
- If there is a necessary revision to the "To School" and/or "From School" stop locations, parents & guardians must contact their school's office to have the revision made. The Transportation Department does not have permission to make changes to student data, only the school has access to do so.
Download Here Comes the Bus App
After parents/guardians have confirmed the accuracy of their student's "To" and "From" transportation addresses in HAC, they are ready to download the app for use on a smartphone or tablet. Download on the App Store or get it on Google Play. Alternatively, you can visit Here Comes the Bus to create an account and begin using the system from your personal computer. In order to create an account, you will need to know your child's ID number and the school district activation code 87557.
Parent Drop-off
If students are refusing to exit the vehicle, please park and escort your child into the building through the front entrance.
