A message from Amy
As April unfolds, marking the transition from Winter's chill to Spring's bloom, I find myself captivated by the promise of new beginnings. The budding crocuses and daffodils whisper tales of resilience and renewal, echoing the hope that fills my heart with warmth. Beyond personal aspirations, my deepest wishes extend to global kindness, health, and happiness for my family. Let us journey together through this season of growth, nurturing our spirits and embracing the optimism that paves the way for positive change and fulfillment.
Imposter Syndrome: Overcoming Self-doubt
First, let's start with a definition of Imposter Syndrome. Imposter syndrome, a common psychological phenomenon, refers to the persistent belief that one's achievements are undeserved and the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evident success. Individuals experiencing imposter syndrome often attribute their accomplishments to luck or external factors rather than acknowledging their skills and capabilities. This mindset can lead to feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and a constant fear of failure, ultimately undermining self-confidence and hindering personal growth. Understanding imposter syndrome involves recognizing its irrational nature and challenging negative thought patterns to cultivate self-compassion, self-awareness, and a more realistic self-perception. By shedding light on imposter syndrome and its effects, individuals can begin to dismantle these limiting beliefs and embrace their true worth and achievements with confidence.
Navigating through the depths of imposter syndrome has brought to light my internal struggles, a battle I hadn't faced in over two decades. The roots of my self-doubt intertwine with new rejections, the solitude of working solo, and the fear of "not making it." Each day becomes a part of my ongoing journey toward unraveling these layers of doubt and fear. Yet, within this process of self-discovery and self-acceptance, I find the courage to confront these shadows head-on. It is a journey marked by vulnerability and resilience, as I nurture a deeper sense of self-awareness that leads me towards self-love and, ultimately, to reclaiming the sturdy confidence that once defined me. The choice between succumbing to doubt's whispers and embracing the wellspring of self-assurance lies before us all. In choosing resilience, we empower ourselves to recognize that self-confidence is not merely a trait but a conscious decision to uphold our worth and embrace the brilliance that resides within us.
Embracing self-doubt and conquering imposter syndrome are crucial steps toward owning one's success. Often, individuals plagued by imposter syndrome find themselves questioning their achievements and abilities, attributing their success to luck rather than merit. This internal battle with self-doubt can be paralyzing, hindering personal and professional growth. However, acknowledging imposter syndrome as a common experience among high achievers is the first step towards overcoming it.
Navigating imposter syndrome requires a shift in mindset from self-criticism to self-compassion. By reframing negative thoughts and challenging unrealistic standards, individuals can begin to recognize their worth and capabilities. Seeking support from mentors, peers, or therapy can provide valuable perspective and encouragement in moments of self-doubt. Understanding that setbacks and mistakes are part of the learning process can help foster resilience and self-confidence.
Ultimately, overcoming imposter syndrome is a journey towards embracing authenticity and acknowledging one's worth. By celebrating achievements, accepting praise, and internalizing positive feedback, individuals can cultivate a sense of confidence rooted in their abilities. By actively challenging self-doubt and choosing to own their success, individuals can break free from the grip of imposter syndrome and thrive in their endeavors.

CALM
How Coach Amy Stays Calm
These are my calming, soothing strategies:
- I always do deep breathing first. I use the breath focus technique. I keep a yoga mat in my office.
- Take a walk around my town (where my office is), sometimes in quiet so I can listen to all the sounds around town, sometimes some jamming music or sometimes a good audiobook or podcast.
- Say and repeat my mantra: I am Brave, I am Smart, and I can do this!
- I have the Calm app, and I will do a 10-minute guided meditation. I use this for grounding. When time permits I do a 5-minute grounding before I see a client.
- Make plans with friends so I have something to look forward to.
- Take a break to send happy. loving, and encouraging texts to family or friends. This helps reframe my brain into positivity.
- At home, I do puzzles, paint by numbers, read, and listen to podcasts while lying down on my bed. And in the summer I am out kayaking as often as I can be!

Mindfulness for Teens: Techniques for Stress Reduction and Emotional Wellness
"Embracing Calm: Harnessing the Butterfly Hug to Soothe Teen Anxiety"
The butterfly hug, a gentle and soothing technique, has emerged as a valuable tool for alleviating stress and anxiety in teenagers. This simple yet effective method involves crossing one's arms over their chest and tapping their shoulders alternatively, creating a comforting sensation akin to a butterfly's wings gently embracing them. As you navigate the complexities of academic pressures, social challenges, and personal growth, the butterfly hug offers a tangible way to self-soothe and regulate emotions in times of distress. By engaging in this calming practice, you can experience a sense of grounding and security, fostering a connection to their inner resilience and emotional well-being.
Research supports the efficacy of the butterfly hug in reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation among teenagers. Through the rhythmic tapping motion and the gentle pressure on the chest, this technique can activate the body's natural relaxation response, lowering stress hormone levels and promoting a sense of calm. The butterfly hug serves as a portable and accessible coping mechanism for you to manage overwhelming emotions, whether in school settings, social environments, or personal moments of solitude. By integrating this empowering practice into your daily routine, you can cultivate emotional resilience, enhance self-awareness, and build essential skills for navigating the ups and downs of adolescence with grace and poise.

April's Executive Function Skill: Task Initiation/Motivation
Try the 5-Minute Goal technique to kickstart any task effectively:
1. **Prepare Your Space**: Settle into your workspace, gather all necessary materials, adjust lighting, and find a comfortable setup. Consider playing background music if it aids your focus.
2. **Minimize Distractions**: Switch your phone to "Do Not Disturb" mode and place it face down to avoid interruptions.
3. **Break Down the Task**: Examine the task at hand, divide it into manageable steps to reduce overwhelm, and identify what needs to be done first.
4. **Set a 5-Minute Goal**: Make a list of what you believe you can accomplish within 5 minutes. Set a timer for this duration and start working.
5. **Reflect and Adjust**: When the timer goes off, evaluate what you achieved against your estimation. Challenge yourself further by setting new time goals, such as 10 minutes, and repeat the process to enhance productivity.
By following these simple steps, you can overcome procrastination and initiate tasks with a clear and structured approach, fostering productivity and momentum in your work.
