Chemistry Honors Students of CMIT worked on a Project to Combat Climate Change
In celebration of Earth Day, Chemistry Honors students at CMIT, worked on a project aimed at addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change. Our students worked like the teams of top scientists from all around the world who are tackling the challenge of “storing CO2 and transforming it into valuable products”, with the ultimate goal of winning the coveted $100 million award of prestigious XPRIZE competition.*
This innovative project represents a fusion of scientific expertise, engineering ingenuity, and environmental consciousness. Teams have undertaken a multifaceted approach, involving meticulous research, collaborative brainstorming, and rigorous evaluation of design options. They navigated through the complexities of chemical processes and sustainable engineering solutions. The project's evolution can be traced through several key milestones:
1. Research Phase: Teams delved deep into the scientific literature, exploring the latest advancements in CO2 capture and utilization technologies.
2. Design Ideation: Armed with knowledge gleaned from their research, the teams engaged in an intensive brainstorming session, generating a myriad of design ideas and conceptual sketches. This creative process was characterized by boundless imagination and a commitment to innovation.
3. Decision Matrix Evaluation: Recognizing the need for systematic analysis, teams developed a decision matrix to evaluate the feasibility and viability of each design option. This methodical approach enabled them to identify the most promising pathways forward.
4. Final Project Sketch: Building upon the insights gained from the decision matrix, the teams refined their ideas and synthesized them into a cohesive, final project sketch. This culmination of their efforts represents a comprehensive solution that holds the potential to make a meaningful impact in the fight against climate change.
Throughout this journey, Students have exemplified the spirit of collaboration, drawing upon diverse perspectives and expertise to drive progress forward. Their dedication to addressing real-world challenges underscores the transformative power of education and innovation. With a shared commitment to sustainability and a determination to make a difference, they embody the ethos of Earth Day and inspire hope for a brighter, more sustainable future.
