Reutter School Weekly Update
Weeks of October 28, 2024 and November 4, 2024
Principal's Message
Reutter School Families:
Our student council will be hosting Halloween Festivities on Thursday, October 31 during our single session school day. Students will be permitted to "dress in costume" throughout the school day (optional) pending their costumes are within the guidelines for our school dress code. Props will not be permitted. Later on in the morning, there will be separate, grade-level "socials" for the students to mingle and enjoy some refreshments while listening to music. As the students enter the cafeteria for the "social" there will also be a costume contest. The student council would like to thank the PTO and Parents in advance for their donation of refreshments for this fun event.
Each school year, we plan two formal Parent/Teacher Conference sessions to provide an opportunity for teachers to discuss individual student progress with parents. The first conference session of this school year is scheduled to take place from November 4 to November 26. Conferences will be held in a hybrid format, offering both virtual and in-person options for your convenience.
Each of your child’s major subject teachers will be reaching out to you soon to see if you would like to schedule a conference time to discuss your child's academic progress in their class. If you indicate that a conference is requested, the teacher will follow up with a Google Calendar link. This link will allow you to select the date, time, and type of conference setting that works best for you—whether in-person, via Google Meet, or by phone call. We look forward to meeting with you to support your child’s academic growth!
As we head into the holiday season, our school community is well aware that some families may need extra support in order to have a much deserved Thanksgiving feast this year. Therefore, our Counselor Helpers will be collecting non-perishable foods to help us create baskets filled with a balanced meal that we can then distribute to these families. With your help, our food drive will ensure no family goes hungry in our community this holiday season.
If you are a family in need of support this holiday season, please complete this form. Be sure to include all of the requested contact information. This information will only be viewed by our main office staff.
PLEASE SUBMIT NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 28 as the form will close after that date.

In order to serve a maximum number of families a full meal, each homeroom has been assigned a specific item (listed below in the newsletter). Food items will be collected until Friday, November 15. Items may be dropped off in the main office vestibule between 7:10am-1:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Thank you for all of your support!
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Peters
Principal

A Look At This Past Week...
Students in Mrs. Cockerill's fifth grade math classes were learning how to determine the volume of a composite figure in their lessons this week.
Sixth Grade Students Learn Start Tiny House Projects
Our sixth-grade students participated in a special field trip last Thursday and Friday to the Operation Safe Haven Tiny House Community in Franklinville. This trip is the kick-off to their year-long Tiny House Project, an exciting cross-curricular learning experience.
Operation Safe Haven, founded by former police officer and Air Force veteran Donnie Davis, is a micro-housing community designed to support veterans and law enforcement officers affected by PTSD. The field trip was an introduction to this meaningful project, allowing students to connect with the community and understand the purpose behind tiny house living.
The Tiny House Project will engage our sixth graders throughout the entire school year, integrating various subjects. Here are the key areas your child will be working on as part of this project:
- Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Students will foster community pride and explore the connection between giving back and supporting those in need.
- Math: Students will build scale model tiny houses, learning about cost, measurements, and proportions.
- English Language Arts (ELA): Students will practice descriptive and persuasive writing.
- Social Studies: They will study the historical and modern purposes of tiny houses.
- Science: Students will explore the ecological benefits of tiny houses and sustainable living.
- Technology: The project will culminate with students creating a tour presentation of their tiny house models.
We are thrilled to offer this unique and enriching opportunity to our students and hope they will gain valuable insights into community, sustainability, and interdisciplinary learning.
Students used Cheerios to create a model of the particle movement in each state of matter in fifth grade science lessons.
Students worked in groups to complete a science lab about the properties of the three states of matter using balloons in fifth grade science lessons.
Mrs. Pizzo's sixth grade math students were creating number lines to solve practice problems involving unit rate during class this week.
Students worked together to create a constructed response to a prompt where they needed to analyze and correct a fictional student’s math work in fifth grade math lessons.
