The CDC has reported that there has been a surge in walking pneumonia cases in 2024, especially among young children. We are seeing cases here at SMS. Please be sure to educate yourself in order to help treat your own student(s) should they become ill, and also help prevent future cases. Reminder, school policy states that your student must be fever-free for 24 hours in order to return to school.

Waling Pneumonia Symptoms include: Persistent cough, low-grade fever, fatigue, headache, chills, sore throat, chest discomfort

To prevent the spread of walking pneumonia, you can:

• Wash your hands frequently

• Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze

• Stay home when you're sick and visit your doctor for potential antibiotic treatment

If you need a paper flier/order form for re-takes for your student, they are available at the school office. You may also order re-takes online at mylifetouch.com. PLEASE NOTE- the Picture Day ID for retakes is different, it is: EVTM34H3R. If you need to contact Lifetouch Customer Service for a problem with your original school photo order, they can be reached at 1-800-736-4753.

We know that people move, change phone numbers & emails, & family situations change. Please help us make sure that we have the most up-to-date information on your student(s) & family, including emergency contact information for this school year, & your students' t-shirt sizes for any special event needs by completing the linked form below by Friday, November 15th. Monkey See Monkey Do will be hosting the SMS Book Fair with in-school shopping available on: November 13, 12-3pm, November 14, 12-3pm, & November 15, 8-3pm. Shop the online fair 11/11-11/18, share the link with family & friends, & any special book requests will be delivered to school. Books make great Christmas presents for your own children, friends & family! If you wish for your student to be able to shop at the book fair next week, please send them to school Weds., Thurs., or Fri. with an envelope containing cash or check for them to shop. Parents are also welcome to come in and shop with their students after school until 3 pm.

AFTER MASS DONUT SALE- Satisfy your sweet tooth on Nov. 16th or 17th when Grade 8 students will be selling delicious "Famous Donuts” ($22/dozen, $12/half-dozen, or $6 for 3 donuts) after all weekend Masses at St. Mary’s.

SAVE THE DATE: Wine tasting fundraiser at Addy’s on Dec. 12 from 6-8pm. There will be wine tasting stations, basket raffles, charcuterie, and more. Admission is $20 per person. 10% of sales that night go to the class AND during the month of December, anyone can go in and mention the St. Mary’s Fundraiser and a portion of their sale will be donated to the class. Mr. Harrison Reeds, Mr. Brendan Dolan, and Mr Parker Kelly will be conducting Intramural Fall Session #1 2024 | November 5th- December 19th. You must complete the sign up and send in payment for each student that is participating.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Days: Tuesday/ THursday

Grades: 5-8

Time: 6:30AM-7:30AM

Cost: $75

• Intramurals start promptly at 6:45AM! If you are not here on time, you will have to show up at 730AM for school

• We will not allow siblings that are Below Grade 5.

• Students will wear their PE Uniform to Intramurals

• Deodorant strongly suggested

• SMS requires a 75% or better in all classes to attend intramurals! Intramurals are a privilege, and school comes first.

• Intramural privileges can be revoked if Disciplinary issues arise, during school/ SMS sports, as well as during intramurals

• Showing up in PE Uniform is encouraged (to save time)!!

Sequence of Events

6:30-6:45AM - Drop off at Door B1

6:45-6:50AM - Changed into Uniform

7:15-7:20AM: Returning to gym (if outside), and putting away equipment

7:20-7:30AM: changing into SMS Uniform, preparing for school day

Homelessness can make daily living challenging. Everyday activities such as eating & maintaining basic hygiene can become difficult. As a school family we are endeavoring to help the homeless this Thanksgiving with their basic needs, so they have what they need AFTER the hot Thanksgiving meal of turkey and stuffing. HSA Events Flyer - Stay up to date with all the exciting things the HSA has planned for the next few months!

Join us in the gym over Thanksgiving Break for HSA Family Movie Night! We’ll be watching the Christmas Movie: "The Star”.

Saturday, November 30⋅6:00 – 8:00pm

You are welcome to bring your own snacks and beverages. Pizza, water, and kids movie treat boxes (including a slice of pizza, treat, and juice box/water) will be available for purchase. Funds raised are restricted to the St. Mary’s HSA.

Our annual school Thanksgiving lunch is on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. This time honored tradition brings the whole school together in our gym for a festive lunch with all of the fixings! Classes prepare small bits of entertainment and our older students assist with the younger ones. Please review the available volunteer positions and needed donations at the link below. NOTE: several donations of a turkey are needed. BJ’s and Top's are both running free turkey promotions with a qualifying purchase this week, see their stores for details.
