RSU 21 Community News 11-15-24
Message from the Superintendent
Dear RSU 21 Community,
As we approach the middle of November, I wanted to once again thank all our veterans, including those among our staff, families, and community members, for your service and sacrifice. Some of our schools held various ceremonies and educational activities to help our students understand and appreciate the significance of Veterans Day, which was this past Monday.
Looking ahead, next week marks our last full week of classes before Thanksgiving break. Our teachers and staff are working diligently to ensure students remain engaged and focused during this time. While the excitement for the upcoming holiday is building, these final days before the break are crucial for completing important coursework and assignments.
Please note that our last day of classes before the Thanksgiving holiday will be Tuesday, November 26. Classes will resume on Monday, December 2. During this time, I encourage our students to rest, spend quality time with family, and return refreshed for the final weeks of our first semester.
I continue to be impressed by the dedication of our educators and the enthusiasm of our students. Your ongoing support of our school community helps make our district a place where learning thrives.
Much love,
Terri Cooper
Enhanced security system at RSU 21 schools
We are installing new monitoring systems and intercoms at the main entrance of each school building. As part of this security upgrade, all outer front doors will remain locked during school hours. Once installed, visitors to our schools will use an intercom system to communicate with our main office staff before entering the building.
The process is straightforward:
When you arrive at the school, please proceed to the main entrance.
Press the clearly marked intercom button.
Speak with our office staff, who will assist you promptly.
Once verified, you will be buzzed into the building.
Please proceed directly to the main office to sign in and receive a visitor's badge.
This additional layer of security allows us to better monitor and control access to our school buildings while maintaining a welcoming environment for our school community. Our staff is being trained on these new procedures to ensure a smooth transition.
If you have any questions about these new procedures, please don't hesitate to contact your child's school office.
Our annual TNTP Surveys help inform crucial decisions every year. Please help the district by completing your survey.

Community Announcements
Thanks to the community's incredible support, the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel (EFKA) has provided nearly $1.8 million to teachers and students in RSU 21's six schools in support of STEM, Music, Literacy, the Arts, and Professional Development since 2006.
To ensure EFKA is able to continue doing its amazing work, they need donations! These tax-deductible donations help them empower our students and provide our educators with the tools they need to succeed.
