Denial of Credit
The continuity of the educational process is best served by regular classroom experiences. Consistent attendance is an integral part of a student’s education. Frequent student absenteeism impedes instruction that cannot be entirely regained. Consequently, irregular attendance is a frequent cause of student failure and a violation of the state’s compulsory attendance laws. Therefore, the Chester Upland School District expects to promote student attendance. In accordance with this expectation, the following measures have been adopted for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond:
1. To obtain academic credit for a course, students must be in attendance and have their attendance recorded at least 90% of the time that a class/course is scheduled. Failure to attend at least 90% of the scheduled classes of any course will result in a denial of credit for that course.
2. When a student accumulates four or more unexcused absences for any half-year class/course and eight or more unexcused absences in any full-year class/course, the student and parent/guardian will be notified for a mandatory meeting regarding academics, denial of credit, and attendance.
3. The parent/guardian must acknowledge in writing that they received the information regarding the denial of credit.
The staff at Chester High School is working diligently to ensure that all students meet the Pennsylvania Department Education Standards to advance to the next grade and continue to meet all requirements for promotion and graduation. As a result, we provide opportunities for students to attend the CHS After School Program to meet the requirements of those lost classroom hours.
Thank you for your attention and support in this matter.
High School Attendance Policy
Attendance
Student attendance will continue to be a major area of focus throughout CUSD this year. In order for our students to achieve at the highest level, they need to be attending and on time for all classes daily. Please review the following attendance guidelines so that you are well informed. We look forward to partnering with you.
Students begin entering the building at 7:10a.m. and are encouraged to
go to the Cafeteria to get breakfast.
Students will be marked tardy if they are not in class by 7:35 a.m.
Students must present a late note to enter class and to receive credit.
Students will not be allowed inside the building after 8:00 a.m. without a parent
or guardian to sign them in.
