Dear South Parents and Guardians:

Happy New Year! We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season! Thank you to all of the families who dropped off gifts and treats for our staff. We truly appreciate your support and thoughtfulness.

During days when we are experiencing colder temperatures outside, we have an increase in parents driving their child(ren) to school in the morning. We have held attendance on specific days when students were arriving late due to this increase. Please make sure you allow an extra 5-10 minutes of travel time on extremely cold or snowy days to reduce the long lines of traffic. This should enable your child to arrive on time. Students need to be in Homebase by 7:50am to be on time, or they will be marked tardy.

Our administrative team has realized that some of the parents' emails have been going into our SPAM folders and not being received. Please do not hit 'reply' to our newsletter or School Messenger, as those emails are automated and will not be sent to us. If you need to communicate with us you will need to create a separate email. South Administration

South will be conducting a practice Lockdown Drill the morning of January 23rd. The Arlington Heights Police Department will be present and supporting us during the drill.

NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) is a valuable tool that provides us with insights into your child's academic strengths and areas for growth. Unlike traditional standardized tests, the NWEA MAP adapts to your child's individual performance, offering a personalized assessment experience.

We understand that testing can sometimes be stressful, but we want to assure you that our primary goal is to create a positive and supportive testing environment. Please encourage your child to do their best, get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before testing.

The Second Quarter ends on January 24, 2025. Report Cards will be emailed home on January 31st. Please check Powerschool and work with your child to ensure everything is turned in for this grading period.

Winter is the time of year when we notice sporadic cases of lice in the school community. Please read this information about head lice.

Come out to support South Theatre and ABC/25 on Friday, January 31st at 6pm with our South Middle LIVE improv & sketch comedy show! Tickets are $5 for a night of multiple student-led performances that are bound to get you laughing, plus proceeds go to support ABC/25 Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the learning of students in District 25.

Join us for a night of fun, we hope to see you there!

We are looking to honor South Middle School graduates who have made significant accomplishments/achievements by displaying them on an SMS TV monitor that is located in our school entrance. We are asking you to please complete this form and provide us with a picture of the graduate.

Congratulations to South's 7th Grade Girl's Basketball team on an incredible year. They won Third Place in the IESA State Tournament. They end their season with 19 wins and one loss.

South's wrestling team represented our school with great efforts, and great character at the Holmes Wrestling Tournament.

Most students receive a yearbook through their parent’s South PTA Individual/Parent Membership or by pre-ordering during D25 registration. However, for non-PTA members now is your time to order a Yearbook!

Quantities are limited, so order early.

2. Send Cash. Cost is $25 (non-mbr) or $20 (mbr). Include a note with your child's name. Deliver to the main office.

3. Purchase Online. Cost is $26.64 (non-mbr, includes $1.64 CC processing fee) or $21.44 (mbr, includes $1.44 CC processing fee); you'll enter your child's name and homebase/teacher. Order at https://smspta.memberhub.com/store.
