Peterson's News
12/2-12/6
Good evening,
I hope everyone had an incredible Thanksgiving Break! I enjoyed having both of my kids home and spending time with family and friends!
In the spring, we received a grant from the Nicarico Foundation to purchase a Book Vending Machine. It is finally here and we were able to use it the week before break to celebrate our September, October, and November birthdays! I am excited for the opportunity to honor students on their birthdays with the gift of reading. Below are a few pictures!
Thank you so much to our amazing PTA for the delicious dinner and continental breakfast that was provided for staff during Parent/Teacher Conferences. It made those long days a lot easier for us!!!
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Parent University
Thank you to everyone who attending our Parent University: Assessments Throughout the Year. During this university, we shared the assessments the district uses, timeline for assessments, and how those assessments as well as other pieces of evidence are used to determine placement in our Project Arrow and Math Acceleration programs. For those of you who were unable to attend, a link to the presentation is below!
Supporting Attendance!
At Peterson, we understand that life can sometimes get in the way of maintaining regular school attendance. It can be difficult to juggle unexpected events, health concerns, or family commitments.
Attendance is essential to your child’s success, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. Each day at school provides opportunities for learning, connecting with friends, and exploring new ideas. We are here to help ensure that every child has the support they need to attend regularly and thrive.
If you’re facing issues that make attendance difficult, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Whether you need assistance with transportation, navigating medical appointments, or other resources, we’re ready to work together to find solutions.
Your child’s success is our top priority, and we believe that by partnering with families, we can help every student succeed.
Outdoor Recess
The cold weather is definitely here!!! Please make sure that your child is dressed to go outside. They should have coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves. If they like to play in the snow, they should also have boots and snowpants. Students will go outside for recess when the temperature is 5 degrees and above including wind-chill.
Book Fair!
The Book Fair is coming!! The Book Fair will be open on Wednesday, December 11th through Friday, December 13th at 11:30am. It will be open for families to shop after school on Wednesday, December 11th, from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Families Helping Families
The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC), in partnership with District 204, is continuing the Families Helping Families program to support families facing hardship or homelessness through monetary donations and gift cards. This ongoing initiative assists under-resourced families during the winter holidays and throughout the year. Community members can participate by visiting the online store to purchase gift cards or make a donation, making a meaningful difference for families in need. For details, please contact IPPC 1st Vice President and Unity Chair, Robin Schmidt, at ippcpta@gmail.com. If your family needs support, reach out to your school social worker, who can guide you to helpful resources.
Giftmart 2024
Giftmart 2024 needs your help! Please consider donating a toy to assist under resourced families in Naperville. By invitation, parents and/or guardians are invited to the Giftmart Toyshop where they can purchase new toys for $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each invited school to fund much needed resources. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. No stuffed animals or board games, please. Both a Target and Amazon Gift Registry have been created or there will be a Giftmart Toy Box located inside of Metea and Waubonsie Valley High Schools, Granger, Crone, Gregory and Fischer Middle Schools, and in Brookdale, Brooks, Cowlishaw, Fry, Graham, Georgetown, Gombert, May Watts, McCarty, Owen, Patterson, PETERSON, Welch, and Young Elementary Schools from November 11 – December 9. Safety Concerns
Unfortunately, our community and I continue to witness unsafe driving behavior. We have drivers who are continuing to disobey the crossing guards while students are at or in the crosswalks, drivers who are making u-turns in the middle of Honey Locust, and trying to pick up students from the blacktop off of Honey Locust. Please the safety of all of our students is critically important! I continue to work with our police and district on this issue. I also highly encourage you to fill out the non-emergency form below. We expect our students to follow the expectations, I expect our families to do so too.

New Forgotten Items/Lunch Drop-Off Procedures beginning Wednesday, November 6th.
Beginning Wednesday, November 6th, we will have a new procedure for dropping off forgotten items and lunches. Many elementary buildings are changing their practices in order to strengthen our security procedures, such as decreasing the number of distractions from visitors and opening outside doors during the school day. Keeping the outside doors closed ensures the security of our building. Making these changes will help increase our attention and focus on students in the school.
If a student has forgotten something or a lunch needs to be dropped off, parents can bring the items and place them on the cart outside of the building between 9:15 and 1:00.
Forgotten Items/Lunch Drop-Off Procedures
- Please do not ring the office bell. We can view items and/or lunches from the office camera.
- When you drop off your child’s item and/or lunch, mark your student’s lunch with First and Last Name and Class. Labels and markers are provided on the cart.
- Leave the labeled lunch on the cart.
- The cart and lunches will be brought into the building at regular intervals to ensure students get their items.
- No items will be accepted after 1:00 pm.
Please note that regardless of the temperature or weather, the item/lunch drop-off will remain outdoors. We appreciate Peterson families for supporting and following this new procedure and plan!
Late Start Wednesdays
As in years past, our school district will continue to follow a late start time for every student on Wednesdays. This time is critical to our school and district professional development. The school day will begin at 9:15 a.m. This late start delays both school drop off and morning bus schedules. It does not change our dismissal time of 3:35.
Wednesday Morning Schedule:
- 9:00 a.m. Doors open
- 9:15 a.m. School Starts
