We only have 17 days left in trimester two.
It is very important to attend everyday as missing school can lead to falling behind. Even a few days can make it harder to catch up. Also, school is a place for social interactions, and staying engaged with classmates and teachers can help you feel connected and prepared for the break.
Compass Spotlight
We have started to honor students through our Compass Spotlight! Compass Spotlight recognizes students for their great attendance, full engagement, and continued efforts to build positive relationships.
This past month's spotlight students were David Oghumah, Natalya Kronberg, Hamlin Kulee and Madusu Kromah! Congratulations and keep up the good work!
David Oghumah
Great Attendance: David has shown exceptional commitment to their education through consistent, punctual attendance. His dedication to being present each day not only supports his own learning but also positively impacts the overall classroom environment, setting a great example for peers.
Avoiding Peer Conflicts: David has maintained a remarkable ability to navigate social situations with maturity and respect. He consistently avoid conflicts and contribute to a positive, inclusive atmosphere among his peers.
Outstanding Academic Achievement: David demonstrated stellar behavior, but he have also excelled academically. His consistent hard work, focus, and determination have led to impressive grades across all subjects.
Natalya Kronberg
Perseverance Academically and Socially: Natalya has demonstrated incredible resilience throughout her educational journey. She has faced challenges with a positive attitude and never backing down from obstacles. Whether it’s mastering difficult concepts or navigating social situations, she consistently shows determination and the will to overcome difficulties.
Active Participation in Lessons: Natalya actively participates in class lessons. She is always engaged and listens attentively to instruction. Her participation not only enriches her own learning experience but also fosters a positive and collaborative atmosphere in the classroom.
Achieving Her Academic Goal: Most notably, Natalya is achieving her academic goals with hard work and dedication. Through focused effort and a growth mindset, she has made tremendous progress and continues to excel in her studies.

Creating a Strong Support System: Madusu and Hamilyn are enrolled in the Compass Online Program, where self-discipline and accountability are key to success. They have formed an incredible bond by holding each other accountable. Their partnership exemplifies the power of teamwork, as they consistently motivate each other to stay on track with their studies, complete assignments, and stay engaged in the learning process.
Balancing Work and School: In addition to their academic responsibilities, both students are employed in the demanding and important field of health care. Balancing the pressures of jobs with their schoolwork is no easy feat, yet Madusu and Hamilyn have shown an unwavering commitment to excelling in both areas. Their ability to manage work schedules, maintain strong academic performance, and support each other’s success is truly remarkable.
Academic Growth Awards
The Anoka Hennepin school board recognition policy 215.0, RET calculated growth in the areas of math, reading, and language acquisition using the MAP/aReading, MCA, CogAT, and ACCESS. Analysis of growth over the 2023-24 school year. Growth was measured by comparing performance on two of the same assessments in any of the three examined areas. Students demonstrating growth at the top 1 percentile and top 5 percentile were identified.
Compass students who achieved this recognition are:
David Oghumah - Top 1% for MAP Reading change RIT percentile
Isabella Rivera-Cheng - Top 5% for MCA Math percentile change ranked

Testing Dates
MCA Testing
Reading MCA Testing will take place on 4/1 and 4/2 for grades 6 - 8 & 10
Math MCA Testing will take place on 4/8 and 4/9 for grades 6 - 8 & 11
Science MCA Testing will take place on 4/29 and 4/30 for grades 6 - 8 & Biology students
ACT Testing
ACT Testing will take place on 4/22 for 11th graders!
Electronics Policy
Compass Programs Electronic Device Policy
Please review this policy with your student. We have had an increase in personal technology use issues during the school day. The expectations were gone over with all students at the beginning of this trimester.
Personal Electronic devices and cell phones are not needed from 7:30 am - 2:45 pm
Devices should not be seen or heard
If a communication need arises, ask a staff member to use a phone
Violations of the policy may result in the device being turned into the office
Repeated violations will require a parent/guardian meeting

Winter gear:
Did you know Compass has winter gear onsite available for students? If your student is in need, have your student talk to one of the Compass social workers.
If you have any needs or barriers to accessing resources to provide for your family, please contact one of our Social Workers for further support options.
