Superintendent's Message
Green Meadow Elementary School
Good Afternoon Maynard Community,
The progress continues at Green Meadow Elementary School.
Last weekend the abatement work will began. The scope of work related to the water/heating leak includes removing asbestos-containing joint compound and sheetrock at select locations.
As a reminder, all asbestos abatement activities will continue to be performed by an experienced, Massachusetts-licensed contractor under the complete supervision of Massachusetts-licensed project monitors in accordance with DEP/DLS regulations.
The project will be performed by isolating the ACM abatement work areas from non-ACM abatement work areas by erecting enclosures covered with two layers of polyethylene sheeting inside the ACM abatement work area and installing negative air machines to put the ACM abatement work area under negative pressure.
Continuous air sampling will be performed by the monitor during and after any asbestos abatement activity to establish airborne ambient levels inside and outside the ACM abatement work area and ensure that airborne fibers are within EPA limits.
After the initial ACM abatement work visual inspections and clearance air samples were performed at the work area. The project monitor will analyze the samples to ensure acceptable conditions.

- No asbestos was detected in the samples.
I will continue to share updated test results during the abatement process and until the work has been completed.
We will continue to keep staff and students safe by following the recommendations of the experts.
Respectfully,
Brian Haas
Superintendent
Staying Healthy
With norovirus on the rise in Massachusetts, it's crucial to focus on maintaining good health and preventing the virus from spreading. Here are some important steps we can all take to stay healthy during this time:
1. Practice Good Hand Hygiene
- Wash Hands Often: Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.
- Use Hand Sanitizer: When soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
2. Stay Home When Sick
- Stay Isolated: If you or anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms of Norovirus (vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps), it’s crucial to stay home to prevent spreading the virus to others.
- Wait 48 Hours: Individuals should stay home for at least 48 hours after symptoms have stopped to ensure they are no longer contagious.
3. Clean and Disinfect Regularly
- High-Touch Areas: Frequently clean high-touch surfaces like door handles, light switches, phones, keyboards, and countertops using disinfectants that are effective against Norovirus.
- Restrooms: Ensure restrooms are cleaned and sanitized regularly to reduce the chance of transmission.
4. Avoid Sharing Personal Items
- No Sharing: Avoid sharing food, drinks, or personal items such as towels, utensils, and cups, as Norovirus can spread through contact with contaminated surfaces.
5. Boost Immune Health
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, especially if you're feeling under the weather, to stay hydrated and support your immune system.
- Eat Healthy: Maintain a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and foods that support immune function.
6. Limit Close Contact
- Social Distancing: If possible, limit close contact with others, especially if you or someone in your household is sick. Try to avoid crowded areas during the peak of the outbreak.
7. Communicate with Others
- Stay Informed: Keep yourself informed about the local health situation. If you’re in a school or workplace setting, stay aware of any specific policies or actions being taken to prevent the spread of Norovirus.
- Educate Others: Share information with friends, family, or coworkers about how Norovirus spreads and what actions they can take to stay healthy.
8. Encourage Vaccination (for other related illnesses)
- Flu Shots: Although the flu and Norovirus are different viruses, getting a flu shot can help prevent another illness that could complicate your health during an outbreak.
By staying vigilant and following these guidelines, especially number 9, we can help minimize the spread of Norovirus and keep ourselves and those around us healthy. Together, we can reduce the impact of this outbreak.
STAY WELL!!!
