Falcon Families,

May promises to be a busy month, full of end-of-year recognitions and special celebrations! We look forward to welcoming ALL of our families to our Summer Send Off event on May 14th or 15th (details contained in the newsletter). In addition, we have special in-person events for our Kinder and 5th grade students this month, as well as virtual award ceremonies for 1st-4th graders. Before we move too far into May, however, we want to take a look back at the great things April had in store:

• Our Pre-K students held their special end of year event: their nursery rhyme-themed Day of Play! Research shows a strong connection between early knowledge of nursery rhymes and success in reading and writing down the road!
• We advanced all of the way to the finals and came in 2nd place in the district-wide STMath competition!
• Our Dierker's Champs baseball team finished the season in third place! They worked hard, grew their skills, and practiced good sportsmanship each and every week. We couldn't be prouder!
• We welcomed Toro and the Texans for a pep rally to gear up for STAAR testing, and our Falcons loved it! The state of Texas requires schools to complete STAAR testing annually, and while I know it can be a challenging day for students and staff, we want to thank you for your support. We appreciate the many ways you helped our testers be prepared and ready, from ensuring they had a good night's rest to giving them that extra hug on the way out to school. Your support makes a world of difference!

As we look ahead to May, we do want to remind our Kinder and 5th grade families that our end-of-year ceremonies have a guest limit of 2 adults per child. This allows us to remain within the assigned capacity of our cafeteria, thus ensuring a safe celebration for all attendees and students. Additional guidelines regarding these events can be found in the corresponding section of this newsletter.

May 17th-5th Grade Parents-Due date for donations and permission slip for 5th Grade Party (see flyer in newsletter for additional details); Last day to enter STMath and Boost Reading competition for a new bicycle; Last Day for Lunch Visitors

May 23rd/24th- Device turn-in for 5th grade; Students will be issued new devices in middle school

May 27th-Memorial Day Holiday for Staff and Students/No devices come to school after this date

May 28th- Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony (2 Guests per student; additional details outlined below)/Cy Ridge and Cy Creek Senior Walk

May 30th- 5th Grade Party/Reading Campout for Grades K-5

May 31st- Last Day of School for Students/Report Cards go home with all summer school details/Medication pick up for those with medicine in the Clinic

June 5th- Camp Francone Summer School Begins; Student hours 9:00-2:30

June 10th- Camp Summit/Camp Triumph/Camp Explorer Summer School Begins

Reminders for End of Year Ceremonies (Kinder Graduation and 5th Grade Awards)

• Each child is permitted 2 guests. We strongly encourage all guests to submit for their visitor stickers in advance and check your child's folder/backpack for those stickers, as they are sent home on an on-going basis leading up to the event. Those without a sticker in advance of the ceremonies are not guaranteed to be seated by the start of the event.
• As a courtesy to others, please keep balloons at home. They can obstruct the view of those around you, and everyone wants to be able to see their child on stage.
• School-aged siblings are not permitted in ceremonies, as these celebrations take place during the instructional day. This includes middle/high school siblings.
• Please complete the form that was sent home and let us know if you are planning to take your child home after the event. Because our primary goal is to safely dismiss from the ceremonies and turn our cafeteria back over in time for lunches, we will not have staff available to dismiss siblings early at the culmination of the events. Please allow siblings in other grades to remain at school and go home their normal way.

Each year in May, we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week (May 6th-10th) by giving our parents an opportunity to say "thank you" to a teacher or staff member. We take your kind words and turn them into a special keepsake for the staff member. Please consider taking a moment before the end of the day on May 3rd to fill out the form below for a teacher or staff member who has made a difference in the life of your child. Your words mean more than you know!

If these glasses belong to your child, please have them claim them at the front desk.

We want to be sure and remind all of our families that transportation will refuse bus service to students without a bus badge, so make sure your child's badge is on his/her backpack daily. There is a grace period for new students, but it is important that your child keeps up with his/her badge once issued. Additionally, badges are required to check out from the campus library. Please make sure to visit with your student about the importance of taking good care of his/her badges.

Traversa 360 is the new system that will allow guardians to find information for their specific Cypress-Fairbanks ISD student including their bus stop along with morning and afternoon pickup and dropoff times. Please set up an account so that you can monitor your child's bus departure and arrival as desired.
