Principal’s Message
Dear DESA Eagle Families,
I hope this message finds you well! As we move forward through the school year, I’d like to share some important updates and reminders with you.
Upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences
Next week is Parent-Teacher Conference Week. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and discuss their progress. Parent conferences will be held Tuesday, October 22nd from 4:30 – 6:30p.m. If you are unable to attend sure to schedule your appointment with your child’s teacher if you haven't already. We value your partnership in supporting your child’s success!
Report Cards Coming Soon
Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. This is a great time to reflect on your child’s achievements and areas for growth. Please take time to review the report card with your child, celebrating successes and setting goals for the next quarter.
Outerwear Dress Code Reminder
As the weather cools down, we kindly remind parents and students that all outerwear, such as hoodies and jackets, should comply with our school’s dress code. Outerwear should be black and display the school logo. If you need assistance, please contact Ms. Galarza. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain our school’s standards.
8th Grade High School Showcase
Attention 8th grade families! Join us for our 8th Grade High School Showcase on October 29th from 5:00p.m. – 6:30p.m. at DESA. This exciting event is your opportunity to learn more about the various high school options available for your student. Representatives from local high schools will be on hand to share information about their academic programs, extracurricular activities, and enrollment process.
Whether your child is interested in advanced academics, STEM, or the arts, this showcase will provide valuable insights to help you make an informed decision about their next step in education. We encourage both students and parents to attend and ask questions!
Don’t miss this chance to explore the possibilities for your child’s high school journey!
Join the PTSA
Our school community thrives with your support! If you haven’t yet, we encourage you to join our Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). The PTSA plays a vital role in organizing events, fundraising, and supporting programs that benefit our students. Together, we can make a positive impact!
Thank you for your ongoing involvement and support in making DESA a wonderful place for learning and growth. As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Wishing you all a great week ahead!

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
As we enter our new school year, we want to ensure all students are present receiving instruction daily. According to Texas State law (Texas Education Agency, 2024), each student must be in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered. The implementation of the Attendance for Credit Initiative is to ensure that all students are in attendance 90 percent of the time a class is offered to certify successful accrual of credit or final grade. At times, students will be eligible at the end of the term as dates continue accruing until the end of the six weeks or semester. Some students have received truancy notices or a notice regarding attendance for credit. Truancy and attendance for credit are two completely different things, students receive a truancy notice once they have accumulated three unexcused absences, attendance for credit is for students that have excessive absences in any class. Truancy can be avoided by ensuring that excuse notes are provided for absences, please remember to send in excuse notes when students are absent, students can bring them to the office or notes can be emailed to Ms. Washington at mwashington@dallasisd.org
