CARE. LEARN. GROW Award Celebrations
CARE. LEARN. GROW Points and Celebrations
Southwood School celebrates and acknowledges our students as they act in ways that show they know our CARE, LEARN, GROW motto. Teachers and other staff fill out Care Learn Grow Slips when students show care and kindness for others, spend extra effort on learning tasks or show they learned something they didn't know or demonstrate before. Student pictures are featured on our screen in the lobby and students enter part of their Care.Learn.Grow slip into their grade level draw box.
Beginning in October, student names are drawn weekly from the collected CLG slips. If their names are picked, they are presented with a certificate at a party with the Principals. They also eat a snack and chat either in the Southwood Staff Room or at a local restaurant. When their name is drawn, you will be notified via email and your child will bring their certificate home so that you may also celebrate with them.
Picture Retakes -- Nov. 6
Picture retakes will be next week Wednesday, November 6th beginning at 9:30 a.m. until we are finished with all of the retakes. Please email your students homeroom teacher if you wish your child to have retakes.
If your child does not attend Kindergarten that day, please bring them to the front office at 9:00 a.m. and we will get them to the gym to have their picture taken.
For any questions or concerns about pictures or your order please contact Lifetouch at 1-866-457-8212.

Hearing and Screening for Students -- November, 12,13,14,15.
All Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will have their hearing screened at school on the above dates. Any students who are new to Southwood will also have an opportunity to be screened. If you feel that your child could benefit from a hearing screening test, please contact your child's teacher.
Parent Supervision at Urban Bus Stops
Please work together with your neighbours to help supervise your children and our students at the bus stops in the morning and afternoon. We want safety and security for all our kids and leaving them unsupervised at the bus stops results in conflicts and issues between students. These issues often then continue on the bus and at school. If we can prevent them starting at the bus stop, we can prevent misconduct on the bus and conflicts between students at school.
Bus misconducts are handled by the bus drivers, who issue written warnings and then if those warnings are not effective, unsafe and aggressive behaviour will result in the suspension of bus privileges. Verbal threats and aggression are handled in a similar manner.
Please speak with your children about safe behaviour at the bus stop and safe and kind behaviour on the bus.
Southwood 2024 Christmas Concert -- Save the Date
Southwood's Grades 3's and 4's will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on December 12th at the Grace Church again this year. Due to the large numbers of Grades 3 and 4 students, we will be putting on two shows that evening - half the Grades 3 and 4 students in a show early in the evening and half later in the evening. This will reduce the number of potential guests at each show and ensure that there is ample room for students to perform and for parents to watch. We will have more details to follow later in November.
