Present and Thriving: The Power of Showing Up
We are continuing to present absentee numbers as part of our ongoing efforts, done in deep collaboration with staff and District families, to reduce chronic absenteeism. Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10 or more days of school each year.
Your child(ren)'s attendance is not just essential to academic success, it is the foundation of building skills such as responsibility and commitment. Each day a student attends school is another opportunity to learn, grow, and feel connected within our school community and have great experiences with their peers and school staff.
By tracking attendance weekly, we can identify patterns early and offer support to students who may need it, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed. Please take a look at the numbers below, and please reach out to your school counselor or site administrators if you need more information about the importance of good attendance.
CalKids: Check Your Eligibility and Start Saving!
We continue encouraging our families to sign up for CalKids, a program of the State of California that can provide up to $1,500 in free money for eligible school-aged children to kickstart savings for future higher-education or career/technical training expenses.
CalKids has an "eligibility tool" on its website to help families determine if they fit the criteria for the account, and that tool can be found here: https://calkids.org/?form=eligibility-tool.
Below please find information, by site, on the number of families who have signed up for CalKids, as well as those who have not yet signed but are eligible. Below the chart are CalKids flyers (in English and Spanish) that previously have been shared.
If you haven't checked your eligibility, or if you need help doing so, please contact your school's parent coordinator.
Computer Science Education Week
Computer Science is everywhere, and next week, District schools will join schools around the nation in marking "CS Ed Week." Schools have been invited to participate in "An Hour of CS" from 9-10am on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Teachers have been provided with an activity choice board to use throughout the week.
Final Nudge: Winter Intersession is Coming Soon
Our Extended Learning team has been preparing an excellent "Winter Intersession" day camp experience for all SCESD students. The free, full-day day camp includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, and transportation from your home school site to the four schools hosting Winter Intersession.
It's not too late to register. Please take a look at the flyers below and get ready for a fun week of learning about air flight and what it's like to be a pilot.
