From the Principal's Desk
Hello Rose Pioneer Families,
March is a busy month at Rose Pioneer with Young Fives/Kindergarten Enrollment Night and Reading Month activities! If you or someone you know has a child entering Y5s or Kindergarten this fall, please see the flyer below for information on our enrollment event coming up on March 20th from 5 - 7 pm. This is an excellent opportunity for families to meet with staff, tour the building, start the enrollment process, and learn all about our outstanding school! Please also see the March Is Reading Month calendar below. Next week, watch for information in your child's backpack regarding optional Reading Month tee-shirts that can be ordered.
Fifth grade parents, please look below and note the field trip your child will be attending next week at Holly Middle School. STEMi is a mobile innovation station with a mobile lab designed to engage K - 12 students and staff in a one-of-a-kind industry 4.0 STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) experience. For more information regarding Oakland Schools STEMi, please visit https://www.oakland.k12.mi.us/stem/stemi
Fifth grade families, we have two fifth grade parents who are looking for assistance planning and hosting our annual 5th grade Lock In at the end of the year. If you are interested in assisting with this fun-filled event, please contact the main office at 248.328.3800 to be connected with Pioneer Parents 5th Grade Lock In volunteers.
Below, you will find the temporary bus cancellation schedule. The routes highlighted in green are Rose Pioneer bus routes. Please use the carline to drop off and pick up students. Preschool students must be signed into and out of school but all other students, Y5-5th grade, are to be dropped off and picked up curbside in front of the building. Other than preschool parents, please do not park and walk your child to class or attempt to walk up to the carline staff to retrieve your student at the end of the school day. Simply stay in the carline and approach curbside; it really does move along quickly and safely.
If you aren't already connected, please like Rose Pioneer Elementary School on Facebook and @RosePioneerEl on Twitter.
Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Michael Beattie

Revisiting Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
When you seek first to understand, then to be understood, you listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. You try to see things from their viewpoint. It can be difficult to listen without interrupting, even for adults. However, it is important as a skill to completely understand the other person.
Ways to practice Habit 5: Try going a set amount of time without talking, even once. Watch the people around you, listen and see if you gain a greater understanding of them. Talk as a family about someone you feel is a good listener, what makes them good at this? How does it make you feel?
