Welcome back e te whānau to Term 3!
Our term has started well, with many great learning opportunities in full swing already.
Term 3 Learning
Our Year 4-6 Highnotes Choir is furiously practising for their performance at the Michael Fowler Centre on Monday 11 September. Peer Mediators (our volunteer students trained in conflict resolution) are supporting others in the playground, our Hub kaiako are busy with the final stages of designing engaging learning activities under the theme of ‘Telling our Stories’ with our professional learning facilitator Matt Richards. Matt is working with us to build our digital fluency, as well as support us with integrating the new Aotearoa New Zealand Histories learning area. This term’s learning will build on the ‘Turangawaewae’ work in Term 2, exploring the way our place is shaped by the stories, cultures and perspectives of the richly diverse community that has settled here.
Remember to check out your child’s hub Seesaw posts for more information about the learning they are doing.
The planning for this term so far includes exciting opportunities such as; green screening, creating models, using video, planning murals, exploring and finding out more about our local places of historical significance. Of course, our ‘bread and butter’ work of supporting students to achieve their next steps in Literacy and Maths, through small targeted group work, continues alongside (and often integrated with) all of this.
We are also in the process of analysing the student achievement data from the middle of the year (what has been communicated to you through your child’s report) to identify schoolwide what is going well, and where we need to put our focus next. This will be shared with the Board at our next meeting after it is discussed by our team to inform the next two terms of teaching and learning action!
Growing Community Conversations - We need your help!
An enormous thank you to the six families who have already responded to our Google Form that we are using as one part of collecting our community's voice during July and August. It is so important to hear from our families how we have gone with our school goals, what is working well, what is not, and what our community would like to see next for their school.
At the bottom of THIS PAGE (click link) of our website are some PDFs in Te Reo Māori, Tongan, Samoan, Chinese and Hindi that give information from the Ministry of Education about what you can expect from your school in planning and reporting and why your involvement is so important.
All the information gathered will be used to identify key themes which will be shared back with you to check we have understood before informing our next round of strategic planning.
Please, please take 15 minutes to complete the form https://forms.gle/5aEorianaYjGtkBf9 (hard copies also available at the school office) before Friday 1 September, OR have a kōrero with one of our team (please let them know that you wish your thoughts to be captured), OR catch us in the playground or drop an email. Whatever you choose, we look forward to hearing your thinking - equally, if there is a better way to seek your voice, please let us know.
New dates to note:
There are a few dates below you may want to add to your diary:
15 September - El Gregoe whole school magic show (unfortunately this has fallen on the same day as the Road Patrol Orange Parade so our students will need to make a choice - though many of our older students have seen this show previously). Please note that this is also the same day as our whole school evacuation and reunification practice.
7 September - Whole School Circus Challenge
4 and 25 August - We invite you to join us in the afternoon for Whakawhanaungatanga Friday
30th August 6.30pm - 7.30pm - Information evening about our Positive Behaviour for Learning work - this will also be the final opportunity to engage face to face with our team/other whānau about our growing community conversations.
Sickness
Unfortunately we are still seeing lots of sickness, both in our staff and our students. Recently we had almost half of a hub of students away!
Thank you for continuing to keep your children at home if they are unwell so that we protect the health of our school community. You might like to take a look at the guidance later in this newsletter from Tu Whatu Ora about monitoring symptoms and wellness indicators to help with decisions about returning to school.
Winning Student
It was a delight to visit Hub 2 for their hui on Tuesday this week as Sarah de Jong was presented with a prize from Heather at Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO).
Sarah entered their 'Get Ready Challenge' which involved planning for an emergency and won her family an Apple iPad for her considered thinking. We are very proud of Sarah.
Finally a reminder that our fortnightly newsletters can also be found on our Bellevue Website - scroll down to view 'previous Bellevue Newsletters' - and for more timely updates, you could follow our closed group Bellevue Facebook Page, if you are not already.

Thank you to all the Parents/Caregivers who attended the Hub 2 trip to the Space Place at the Carter Observatory on Tuesday last week. We always appreciate the support of our community during these trips.
Tu Whatu Ora provides the following infection and control guidance for attendance at school :
- Healthy young children can have up to 8 to 12 colds or upper respiratory tract infections each year and these are a normal part of childhood.
- A child should stay at home if they appear unwell or they develop one or more of these symptoms: new onset of a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, they are off their food and drink or show signs of feeling miserable.
- If a child becomes increasingly unwell and/or you are concerned about their health, call your GP or Healthline on 0800 611 116 for medical advice.
- A child who is refusing to drink anything is likely to be very unwell.
- If an in-person appointment is required for a child, follow your GP’s processes which will include having everyone who can practically and safely wear a mask to put one on.
- If you or a child you are caring for develops difficulty breathing, severe chest pain, fainting or becomes unconscious, call 111 immediately.
- For accurate and reliable information on how to manage colds and flus visit KidsHealth and Health Navigator.
Guidance on wellness indicators within children:
- If a child has been unwell with a respiratory illness other than COVID-19, they can return to their early learning service/education facility 24 hours after they have significantly improved and are behaving/eating normally.
- If they still have a runny nose or dry cough without any other symptoms such as a fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend their early learning service/education facility.
- Following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child must be symptom free for 48 hours before they can return.
- Hay fever and other allergies can show similar symptoms to the common cold such as sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose and coughing. Note - We may check with the child’s caregiver to confirm.
Whakawhanaungatanga Friday
We warmly invite whānau to come along and play, explore and learn alongside your child/ren during our Whakawhanaungatanga Friday sessions this term. These will be held on 4 August and 25 August. Please note that there will be no Whakawhanaungatanga Friday on 15 September due to our Evacuation Day.
There is no need to commit in advance and you are welcome to stay for as little or as long as you are able. We would love to see you. Sessions run from 1:30pm - 2.30pm on any of these afternoons. On arrival, please head to the office and you will be able to find where your child/ren will be for the afternoon.
Dental Van Visit
The Bee Healthy Dental Van was due to visit our school in Term 4, but due to a number of School Events happening in Term 4 this has been postponed until Term 1 2024. A date has yet to be confirmed. If you have any concerns about your child's dental health or need to make an appointment please contact the Dental Hub on 0800 825583.

Welcome to Term 3 2023 Bellevue Family!
Our FUNdraisers committee meeting is rescheduled for Thursday 27 July at 7pm, via ZOOM. If you wish to attend, please contact Rebecca on fundraisers@bellevue-newlands.school.nz for the link.
We will be discussing both our Term 3 and 4 fundraising events.
Updates on our current events as below -
Kids Art Work (Calendar Art)
If you attended the Matariki Evening at the end of Term 2, you may have seen your child’s art work on display. If not, or you need a closer look, keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks!
We will be finalising the details of the ordering process for the art work this week, and order forms, etc. will be coming home to you soon.
Alana Estate Wine
Ah ha! The FUNdraiser of the year that the parents get to really enjoy!!
Yes, we will be running this wine fundraiser again this year! They have released 3 further varieties this time including bubbles, rose and late harvest. I think now there is a wine option in there for all wine consumers!
End of Term Pizza
Will be on offer again on the last Friday of Term 3. Further details to come later.
Can you help us? FUNdraisers Committee Meetings
Our little team of 5 need more support – WE NEED YOU!
Gosh do we LOVE to bring the FUN to our kids with events through the year, and we have some really interesting ideas we would like to bring to the school. We, however don’t have quite enough resources to make it all work. Do you have some of that elusive ‘spare time’ and would you like to give back to our cool school? If so…
Our next committee meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, 27 July at 7pm, via zoom.
We hope to see you there! Or get in touch with Rebecca: fundraisers@bellevue-newlands.school.nz
What’s all this fun and FUNdraising for you ask?
What are we fundraising for? What have we spent our funds raised on?
Our wish list is updated often, and is linked via our FUNdraisers webpage:
https://www.bellevue-newlands.school.nz/fundraisers
If you work for a company that may be interested in supporting our school with any of these targets, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our principal Annette with details :)
Upcoming Events or Activities for Term 4
