Your Lister News from the Lister News Team
An Exciting New School Year...
...from the same old Lister News Team. Although we do find ourselves another school year older, our hearts, at the Lister News Desk, are rejuvenated by the the new year 7 students who are joining us, with their positive energy creating a real buzz around the school. As we progress through the year, we will have lots of news items related to the progress of all Lister students and sharing stories about their success. We will also share relevant news about Lister initiatives and from the broader Newham community. For now, we share a picture of the year 7s departing on their first day when Lister staff came to celebrate their success and welcome them joining our Lister family.
Year 11 Success
We were delighted to celebrate the success of our students on GCSE Results Day! Their hard work and determination over the past few years truly paid off, and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces as they received their well-deserved results. In the pictures we share we see some of the students who received the highest grades - 8s and 9s - and will already be making waves at NCS, LAE and other excellent Newham colleges. However, we are equally proud of those students who worked hard to get to the grade 4 or 5 of their potential. A large number of our year 11 cohort achieved our value of taking responsibility and not having any excuses.
Our Careers Team and staff were on hand to support students with their next steps, whether that be sixth form, college, or apprenticeships. We look forward to seeing where their hard work and determination will take them in the future.
We are immensely proud of all our students, not just for their academic achievements, but also for their resilience, perseverance, and growth.
Extra Curricular Activities
Extracurricular activity offers students valuable opportunities to develop skills and experiences outside of the curriculum.
Getting an apprenticeship, a place on a course at College or University, or a good job, is not just about getting good grades. The world beyond school is competitive, and further education providers and employers are looking for more and more from their applicants. Taking part in extracurricular activities lets employers know more about you, your interests and your strengths. It can demonstrate skills and abilities beyond those that you use in the classroom. Also, extracurricular Activities are fun!
The School’s aim is to provide a wide and varied assortment of extracurricular activities to suit all tastes. Participating in extracurricular activities is a key part of the Lister Character Award. If there is something you would like to see on the timetable that is not already there, let us know and we will see what we can do to help!
Introducing PC Tuffayel Ahmed
Below we have the words of PC Tuffayel Ahmed, who is part of the network of people we have at Lister to make sure your children are safe and happy at school.
I am the Safer Schools Officer for Lister.
You may see me in and around the school and I wanted to introduce myself and reach out to you.
I’ve been in the Metropolitan Police for 8 years and have worked in various units over the years.
My role is to give Lister an additional layer of protection and safeguarding, and effectively engage with young people in order that they are safe and are making positive contributions.
Ultimately, I just want them to be safe and most importantly to be happy and have fun.
I would love to get to know you and understand your concerns. There are a whole array of matters that I could discuss with you.
You may have never had the opportunity to ask an officer a question or get advise about a matter.
Just approach me if you see me outside the school.
