CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
This December, Ms. Hoskins has been visiting fourth and fifth grade classrooms to lead a special seasonal STEM activity called the Zip Line Sleigh Ride. In this hands-on challenge, students work in small groups to design a sleigh that can carry a specific amount of "toys" and "Santa." The sleigh must travel down a zipline made of fishing line and land safely on a "rooftop" (a desk). The project comes with several engineering design criteria including: 1. The sleigh must resemble a traditional sleigh. 2. the toys inside should be clearly visible and remain uncovered. 3. The ride on the zipline must be smooth and steady. The ultimate goal of this project is to have the sleigh glide smoothly onto the tabletop, with the toys and Santa staying safely inside. As you can imagine, everyone worked hard and had LOTS of fun!

RSU1 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
The next school board meeting will be taking place on Monday, 12/16 at 6:00 pm at Morse High School. CLICK HERE to access the meeting agenda and YouTube live stream link once they are posted.
SPELLING BEE
On Tuesday, students in grades four through eight competed in the school qualifying level of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. After 11 rounds, Nathanael Doak placed first, correctly spelling the word, "benediction." Elliot Collamore will be the runner up as they head to the county level of the competition. Thank you to our guest judges: Mrs. Pratt, Dr. Manuel, and Mrs. Joseph; and to our event moderator and coordinator, Mr. Lucas-Wallace. We are so proud of all of the students who participated, and of the student audience who remained silent, supportive, and engaged until the very end!

Things to Talk About
- There are many opportunities for family members to support WCS through volunteering. Please remember to complete your annual RSU1 Volunteer Application so you can be included on field trips or classroom activities. CLICK HERE to complete yours today!
- Please note that on days when we host home basketball games, students are not allowed to "stay after school" to wait for the games to start. The first game will always start at 3:45pm, and students need to have a responsible adult to supervise them for the 45 minutes between the end of the school day and the start of the game.
In accordance with School Board policy, the following promotional announcements have been included at the request of the sponsoring organization because they may be of interest to students and their families. These activities are not sponsored by the school, and inclusion of these announcements does not constitute endorsement of the organizations or activities by the school.
