NEW HOURS NEXT YEAR!
We will have a slight change in our school hours next year.
The change will ensure that we are able to create greater stability and reliability for our transportation service at all grades throughout the school district. The new hours will also ensure that all UCS junior high schools are able to follow the same schedule.
Our new hours next year will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. For students in our preschool ECSE program, the new AM hours will be 9:05-11:39 a.m. and PM hours will be 12:45-3:19 p.m. (this half-day schedule is for ECSE preschool students only).
UCS continues to actively seek new drivers. Walk in applicants are welcomed every Wednesday from 11 to 1 p.m. at our auxiliary services department, 6600 18 Mile Rd in Sterling Heights. For more information, please visit: https://www.uticak12.org/driverseat.

DAILY DISMISSAL REMINDERS❗
Families-
Our official dismissal is at 3:15. As our preschool continues to be open, we ask that all students exit to their parents/families/homes immediately upon dismissal. Our playground should not be attended without adult supervision and is open to the public after preschool dismissal around 3:45. Therefore, all students should go home first and immediately upon dismissal. As a reminder, after school hours on school property could potentially lead to larger issues with the Sterling Heights Police Department. We appreciate all students heading home upon dismissal.
ELEMENTARY
Daily Dismissal Students are expected to be picked up promptly at dismissal time, unless they are involved in a parent- authorized, supervised activity or enrolled in School Age Child Care (SACC).
Teachers official duty and supervision does not begin until 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day. Therefore, students should not be dropped off before that time without an adult's supervision. Breakfast doors open at 8:10. Thank you.
RECESS REMINDERS-❗
RECESS REMINDERS:
As the weather gets nicer, teachers may choose to provide your students with an additional recess beyond the lunch time requirement. As usual, any issues/behaviors that arise should come from the classroom level teacher to reach out to families. Please see below for additional reminders from our UCS PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK, p. 51
RECESS
Elementary Recess Guidelines Fresh air and exercise are proven to enhance a child’s physical and educational growth. Recess is an important part of the Utica Community Schools elementary program and is supervised by authorized school personnel. A doctor’s note is required to excuse a student from recess for more than two days. Your child should come to school appropriately dressed for outdoor play, even in the winter months. During inclement or bitterly cold weather, recess will be held indoors.
- Respectful language (not obscene or profane)
- No threatening language that may unintentionally cause harm to a student.
- HANDS OFF-no pushing, shoving, slapping, fighting that may endanger the safety of others
- Not jumping from the swings due to safety hazard.
- Respectful of all staff members that are present. It is important to listen to the rules the first time they are given.
SOCCER/FOOTBALL PLAYING EXPECTATIONS: we love the competitive nature of our sports enthusiasts, but it is important to remember that we are at a school ground, not a facility that is conducive to our competitive sports we play outside. We are here to play and have fun at recess together. Thank you for using kind words, respectful language, and non-physically aggressive mannerisms. Have fun!

HALLWAY REGULATIONS
"Students are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly and courteous manner in the hallways. Students who are in the hallways during class time must have a pass issued by a member of the school staff. Hallway Restrictions may be implemented for students who are not able to meet the above expectations."
DEFACING SCHOOL PROPERTY
Taken from School Board Policy 5150:
"5150 POLICY - Student Vandalism:
The deliberate destruction or defacement of any school property, including textbooks, will be viewed as a most serious offense because it has a direct affect on the education of all students. In addition to regular disciplinary measures, students guilty of vandalism will be required to make full restitution. Where this is impossible, parents of these students will be held responsible."
