St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 5 | 7 NOVEMBER 2024
"Dear Lord, we remember the fallen soldiers that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
On Remembrance Day, we come to you and ask for healing for families of lost loved ones and to help the rest of us make sure that Remembrance Day is more than once a year,
but a continual act of gratitude. Amen."
Allen McMahon | Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are fast approaching the end of the school year. Please note that School reports will be live on Wednesday, 4 December.
I would very much like to thank the Year 6 students for their thoughtful Year 6 leaving present to the school, of a bird bath for the school veggie garden. I am sure it will provide welcome relief during summer when the birds wish to access water.
At Friday's assembly, we celebrated the exceptional level of art at St Columba's with merit awards. Thank you Mrs Govorko for your passion and dedication to this learning area. Congratulations to our overall winners:
- Junior Winner: Emily's "A Waterhole"
- Senior Winner: Bridget's "Pet jellyfish"
- Principal's Choice: Sophia's "Saint Mary MacKillop"
The Carol’s night and P&F sundowner will be held on Friday, 29 November. It is a requirement that students from Pre-Primary - Year 6 attend, as each class will be singing a carol to families. The carol singing for all classes should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The evening will begin with the Choir singing from 5:45pm and the classes from 6:00pm. Kindy students are not required to attend. If Kindy students do attend, they have the option of singing a carol and at the conclusion of the Kindy carol, the students may sit with their family.
The P&F AGM will be held next Monday evening at 6:00pm in the school undercover area. We have received positions for all executive positions and nominations have now closed.
The School Board ACM will be held next Monday evening following the P&F AGM in the school undercover area. We have received nominations for the advertised positions and nominations have now closed.
Our Year 5 students will hold their speeches and elections on Monday Week 7 for the Year 6 Student Leadership roles in 2025. I would like to thank Mrs Crugnale and Mrs Brine for preparing the children. Positions will be announced to students the following week.
This week Parenting Ideas article is around students leaving Year 6 and moving to High School.
Families please note that you are asked to adhere to the school parking policy and the street verge parking signage. Parking is not permitted in ‘no standing or parking ‘zones, or the Church carpark. Cars that do not follow the street and verge signage face a possible fine from the Ranger. Your help in this matter will be very much appreciated.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday, 6 December.
God bless and keep safe.

Principal

Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year.
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day – a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.
After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
