PTO Calendar Fundraiser

PTO Calendar Fundraiser started August 21st. All calendar funds are due by September 5th. Lots of great prizes available, including candy bars, key chains, Chunky Monkey gift cards, and Brooklyn STEM Academy spirit wear!

STEM Around Brooklyn

Pre-K

Pre-K learned how to use technology. They used iPads to listen to a story!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten visited the STEM lab after reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Their challenge was to make their own coconut trees using toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, and letters.

First Grade

First grade continued to look at shadows to study patterns of the sun. They also took a look at the patterns of the moon and learned all about the phases of the moon from New Moon to Full Moon!

Second Grade

2nd grade is working on their first PLTW module: Properties of Matter. Color and texture are properties used to describe matter.

Third Grade

3rd grade started their PLTW module on life cycles and survival. They learned about the 3 different types of honeybees and the unique jobs they each have in the hive!

Fourth Grade

4th grade is learning about tectonic plates. These plates will shift and bump against each other. They used graham crackers and icing to show the plates colliding together.

Family Pantry Dates

MSD of Martinsville's Family Pantry dates are Thursdays, 9/12, 10/10, 11/14, 12/12, 01/09, 02/13, 03/13, 04/10, and 05/15 between 11am-1pm located in the back of Wooden Middle School (109 E. Garfield Street). Enter the school's one-way road from Sycamore Street. After giving information (family name, school, and ages of the people in their household), volunteers will put the pantry items inside your vehicles.

The MSD of Martinsville is one of only 5 Districts in the State to be named a PLTW Distinguished District!

School Wide Title 1

Funding has been made available through School Wide Title 1 Services to Brooklyn STEM Academy for the purpose of providing students with extra support in reading/language arts and math. This extra support is available for all students at Brooklyn STEM Academy. Classroom teachers, Title 1 Teachers and instructional aides provide assistance through small group and individualized instruction as children demonstrate a need for support. Please contact your teacher about services your child may receive.
