RAISING A READER BLUE BAG BASH!
Over the last two weeks, TCPS held Raising A Reader Blue Bag Bashes! Our 600 Pre-K and Kindergarten Students participated in special activities; the children experienced a story walk, enjoyed a snack, and received their Library Blue Bag and library card! The month of May will be Raising A Reader Month at the TCFL. Special thanks to our Raising a Reader Community Partners: The Judy Center Early Learning Hub, The Talbot County Free Library, Maryland SNAP Ed. Program at The University of Maryland, Tilghman Area Youth Association, Chapel District PTO, and Talbot Family Network.
Raising a Reader Program
Raising A Reader (RAR) is a national nonprofit organization that has helped families successfully build and sustain literacy routines in their homes since 1999.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Raising A Reader rotates bright red bags filled with award-winning books into children's homes on a weekly basis, exposing children on average to over 100 books per rotation cycle. RAR pairs this book rotation with parent training and information on how to effectively share books to promote family literacy habits, language and literacy skills, and a love of learning. Families are also connected with their local public library and children receive a blue book bag at the end of the program to keep so that they can continue the practice of borrowing books and build a lifelong habit of reading. Raising A Reader is an evidence-based program that can be adapted to meet the diverse needs of communities and families. RAR's cost-efficient scalable model serves currently serves children from birth through Kindergarten and is being adapted to serve children through age 8. TRI COUNTY CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
Last night TCPS hosted the first annual Tri-County Career and Technical Education Program Advisory Committee Meeting with Dorchester County Public Schools and Caroline County Public Schools. All of TCPS's 13 CTE programs were able to meet and collaborate with employers and instructors related to their industry. Talbot, Caroline and Dorchester have collaborated to offer cross-county CTE program opportunities for our students. As a result, TCPS students have access to an additional 5 programs:Cosmetology at Caroline Career and Technology Center and HVAC, Welding, Homeland Security and Electricity at Dorchester Career and Technology Center. We look forward to continuing our partnership and expanding opportunities for students on the midshore. LATEST TALBOT COUNTY COVID INFORMATION
The Maryland Department of Health has provided free COVID-19 home test kits to our School Health Centers for distribution to TCPS families if needed. Parents wishing to pick up a test kit may contact their school nurse’s office to make arrangements.
Testing Information:
The Health Department is changing COVID testing locations to 102 Marlboro Ave. Easton MD Monday through Friday starting May 2nd . You can call 410-819-5632 or visit https://portal.ciandx.com/portal to make an appointment. More information coming regarding new location and change in hours.
- The health department’s rapid at-home covid tests are available through the Talbot County Free Library.
- COVID testing site at UM Shore Medical Pavilion, 500 Cadmus Lane Easton MD 21601 is CLOSED
- Local pharmacies are testing for COVID and have at-home covid tests in stock.

- Who: Anyone 5 years and older
- Second boosters are now available for those over 50 years old and those who are immunocompromised and 12 years and older.

Bullying and cyberbullying, harassment and intimidation, hazing, and/or bias behaviors are unsafe behaviors that do not reflect respect for others as defined by Policy 10.16 on STUDENT CONDUCT – BULLYING, HARASSMENT OR INTIMIDATION . If a student is a target of one of these behaviors, you can report it using the Bullying, Harassment, or Intimidation Reporting Form (linked below).
The form is also available at all schools, in the main office and the school’s counseling office. Students can also report issues directly to a staff member. When a situation that involves any of these behaviors is reported, staff members will respond quickly and will provide a practical, private, and safe place to report.
