Hello Waubesa Families,

Thank you to all those who contributed to the special “Star Notes” and other acts of kindness last week to show your appreciation of our staff.

We also want to give a special thanks to our families for stepping up to volunteer on the various previous and upcoming field trips or school activities. We acknowledge that there may not always be enough space to accommodate everyone who expresses interest in volunteering, and if you volunteer and aren’t selecting that one time, please try again. Because of parent/family feedback from last year, we’ve implemented a new process that attempts to provide everyone a chance to volunteer at least once. This speaks to the high level of family involvement, and we’re incredibly grateful.

Spring is here at the intermediate school and with heat comes the need to send a reminder about hygiene! At this age, students may need assistance with self-awareness of their body odor. We ask that you please encourage, if necessary: an increase in showers, applying deodorant, and change out socks and shoes. We REALLY APPRECIATE your partnership in the fight against body odor!

Please take a moment to check in Infinite Campus for your student's Second Semester Activity Fee. Fees are due by April 30, 2024. If you have an issues paying online please call 608-838-7667 if you need help paying the fee please let your teacher know. Also note there is an optional donation, this is optional and only if you are interested in sponsoring another students activity fee. Thank you

Per Handbook: Any professional and other necessary appointments (e.g., medical, dental, and legal) that cannot be scheduled outside of the school day. Parents/Guardians are always encouraged to provide a written statement from a physician or licensed practitioner as proof of the appointment. At the direction of school administration, a parent/guardian will be required to provide such information in order for the absence to be excused. Such an excuse shall be made in writing, shall state the period of time for which it is valid, and shall not exceed 30 days. Parents/Guardians are asked to try to make appointments during non-school times whenever possible. Family Handbook linked for additional information.

• A note or a screen chart (Mychart) provided to the school by a physician will be marked as MED in the students attendance record and will not count against their absences. Please reach out to Emily Gierl, Social Worker gierle@mcfsd.org, if you have questions regarding the policy. Medical notes can also be emailed to wisattendance@mcfsd.org.

As we near the end of the school year and much anticipated Summer break, MSD Health Services is asking that you please review the following Health Services End of Year information . If your student currently has medication at school, you will find pick up information in this document. If your student's medication is NOT picked up by the end of the day on the last day of school, Thursday, June 6th, it will be sent to the CEPS Health office for summer school and pick up will need to be coordinated from that school. Please complete and return the Medication Release Form to the health office, also available in the health office and MSD Health Service Website. Please reach out with any questions. Thank you!

The Be SMART campaign was launched to raise awareness that secure gun storage—storing guns locked, unloaded and separate from ammunition—can save children’s lives

“Be SMART” and take these simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:

Secure all guns in your home and vehicles

Model responsible behavior around guns

Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes

Recognize the role of guns in suicide

Tell your peers to be SMART.

This simple act of keeping guns unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition can help keep our children, teachers, staff, and community safe.

Summary from the 5/6/24 School Board Meeting:

In addition to their regular duties of approving minutes, staffing, and expenses, here are some highlights from the meeting:

• MHS students Joey Lewis and Val Vayserberg from the MHS Connect Club provided a report from the MHS student body.

• The Board discussed the School Board posting locations for the 2024-25 school year.

• Aaron Tarnutzer shared the results of the parent/guardian survey.

• Tom Mooney provided an update from the WI Virtual Academies Spring Retreat

• Action items that were acted upon included:
  

• The School Board approved an agreement with the Dane County New Teacher Project for the 2024-25 school year.

• The School Board approved staff member extended contracts for summer 2024.

• The Board elected officers and appointed committee representatives for the 2024-25 school year.
