Challenge Day was a success! THANK YOU!!!
Challenge Day couldn't happen without the hard work of all of you! Thank you for your time away from your extremely packed busy schedules to make it happen.
Special thanks to Nancy Newton for organizing planning meetings, checking on so many details and putting in so many extra hours on this event! Thank you to Coach Marshall and our OT/PT team for all the equipment moves and set up as well! Thanks to Sharon and Kathy for making sure our students all got their pizza even though it wasn't made easy for them. ;-) Thanks to Leanne Towns for all the behind the scenses work and planning. There are so many thank you's to give... so THANK YOU!
Can't wait to start planning it for next year!

ESY classes have been formed.
Hi team!
ESY classes have been formed and staffing finalized for students on the spreadsheet you all completed
We should have ALL students by now, but IF there are any students NOT on the list please email me, Audra Arnold and Jamie Ballard to add to our ESY classes.
We will need all hands on deck for the first day of ESY if you are still on contract. Please plan on being at GOES or GLJH by 7:45 Monday June 12th to make sure we have a smooth first day. Most staff not working ESY and just there to help can leave by 9:00 that morning.
We still need substitutes for ESY. We are mostly staffed, but can use more people in case someone has to be out unexpectedly. Please let us know if you or anyone you know would be willing to sub. THANK YOU!
As always this is an ARD committee decision, but please make sure we know of any that school based members will be recommending.

We are only 587,355 words away from meeting our goal of 175 million words read with Snap and Read since we've started using the tool. We normally read over a million words in a month so we can do this. Spread the word.

Dr. Garza created a power point with the sequences for LAMP. It is a good way to increase use of the device and teach vocabulary related to our special activities. See the google slides below

ACTION ITEM: Special Services Update:

- Review Special Services Goal Dashboard here.
- Review Behavior Dashboard here.
- Schedule with your Student Support Specialist or Kathy Bonds to review and assist with master scheduling for your students in special education. We want to support you!
- Reading by Design will be offered this summer July 10-13th and 24th from 8:30 - 3:30 at the Tomball Innovation Center. This training will be capped at 10-15 participants. Some positions that could benefit from this training are new Specialized Support teachers, new Academic Specialists, or high school teachers (gen ed or specialized support). If you have any questions, please reach out to Brianne Carbery.

Additional TIP: Remember, anytime a parent requets something in an IEP, we must consider and document the consideration, acceptance OR refusal, as well as the WHY for the acceptance or refusal in the PWN.
YOU BE THE JUDGE: May district extend removal of teen who made verbal threats during IAES?
A California student with a specific learning disability and a conduct disorder threatened to harm a female during the 2021-22 school year. The 15-year-old also threatened to physically harm the vice principal and other staff. The teen had a history of shoving students against lockers.
Finding that the student was substantially likely to injure someone in his current placement, an administrative law judge authorized his removal to a behavior-based program for 45 days.
The district filed a due process complaint, asking an ALJ to continue the removal for another 45 days.
The student's mother contended that when writing the journal entry, the student was describing a nightmare and that his statements about the vice principal were merely venting.
A hearing officer may authorize a student's removal to an IAES if the district demonstrates that maintaining the current placement is substantially likely to result in injury to the student or others. A hearing officer may repeat the removal if the student continues to pose that risk. 34 CFR 300.532 (b).
