ROPE-ING IN TEAM SPIRIT: PEER LEADERS START THE YEAR WITH HIGH HOPES
SMHS Peer Leaders & PROJECT 351 PLAYBOOK STUDENT AMBASSADORS hit the high ropes at the HERITAGE ADVENTURE PARK on September 25, 2024 for a day of team building comradery. These kiddos are the backbone of SMHS, the role models and supportive, friendly faces we all need. SMHS is grateful for their commitment to making our school community a welcoming, inclusive environment for all! Special thanks to teacher leaders: MS. TRINITY BRODERICK, MS. COLLEEN CLABAULT, MS. BETH DONAHUE, MR. DAN DOBBINS, MR. JEFF DUFFANY & MR. NATE EVERETT.
FINN-TASTIC ADVENTURES AWAIT!
RED SOX WELCOME OUR FINNISH EXCHANGE STUDENTS!
Our Finnish exchange students from Kaurialan Upper Secondary School safely arrived in Boston on Thursday. There, they toured the city, followed the Freedom Trail and found their way to Fenway for a Red Sox game. The exchange students and their 2 teacher chaperones arrived in Sandwich on Sunday evening and were welcomed by their SMHS host families with a traditional American cookout.
Our Finnish exchange students will be on campus all week: meeting students, attending classes and participating in school events. For the past year, they've been actively collaborating with SMHS students on a global sustainability project sponsored by the UNITED NATIONS. Our SMHS students are looking forward to traveling to Finland in April 2025 to stay with the Finnish students and visit their school. We're excited and appreciative of this amazing opportunity!

READERS' RUMBLE: WHO WILL TURN THE MOST PAGES?
GRADE 7's RACE TO READ!
The seventh graders are competing in a reading challenge to see who can read more books this school year: Mr. Tansey or Mrs. Foley’s classes. When students finish a book, they color in a box on the bulletin board to note their progress. For the month of September, Mr. Tansey’s students have already read a combined 61 books, and Mrs. Foley’s students have read 48 books. The challenge has promoted a friendly competition between the classes, and has even motivated students to read more than required. It has been a fun and engaging way to start the year!
GET INVOLVED: FIND YOUR PASSION AT THE SMHS CLUB FAIR!
OCTOBER 3 & 4 DURING KNIGHT TIME IN THE SMHS GYMNASIUM
Hello parents & guardians!
Please encourage your student to interact and ask questions with the club representatives at the SMHS Annual CLUB FAIR. It will be held on Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4 during Knight Time. We're proud to say that we have a wide variety of extracurricular clubs that reflect the diverse interests and passions of our student body. There's truly a club for everyone!
TOGAS & TITLES: ROMAN HISTORY COMES TO LIFE
Mr. Kelly's Grade 7 Latin students participated in a Roman naming ceremony on Friday, September 27. Draped in the Toga Praetexta of childhood, students decorated a bulla, a protective amulet worn around the neck by children of Roman citizens until adulthood. Our Advanced Placement Latin students assisted in recognizing the new recruits by their chosen Latin names.
