Book Fair is Approaching!!!
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: 10/10 - 10/17
Location: Evening Street Library
Late night: Tuesday, October 15 from 4-7
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/eveningstreetelemschool1
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
If you would be able to help with the Book Fair during the teacher tea and with the classroom wish lists, here is the sign up: Book Fair Volunteers
Happy reading,
Mrs. Duffey
The Worthington Pride Spirit Wear Sale is put on by Ohiowa Promo. A portion of every sale will go towards the Worthington Parent Teacher Association Council scholarship fund for graduating seniors. You can even purchase a t-shirt for your child's bus driver for $15. Some districts have had to release early because of a shortage of drivers. We are really lucky in Worthington to have dedicated drivers, buy a t-shirt to show your appreciation.

Zero Waste
Thanks so much to those who have signed up to help with Zero Waste at lunch time. This is a great program to teach our students about sustainability. If you are able to give 30 - 45 minutes at lunch time to help the children recycle, compost and donate untouched food, we could use your help. Sarah Kalish is organizing parent volunteers to help with our Zero Waste Lunch program.
If you are able to help, please sign up on the Zero Waste Sign Up Genius.

School Safety
The safety of our staff, students, and community is always a priority in Worthington Schools.
Statistics show that when staff and students within a school are prepared with knowledge and practice, they respond to emergency situations with positive results. For that reason, schools have always engaged in routines, drills and learning that support everyone’s safety.
Historically, our schools have participated in the following safety drills:
A. Fire Drills that provide knowledge about reporting fire hazards, and experience with a safe evacuation of the building using multiple exits.
B. Weather Drills that provide knowledge about how to be calm and safe in the event of weather related events (such as a tornado), and experience with locating sheltered space within the building in which safety is maximized.
C. Safe School Drills that provide knowledge about circumstances in which free movement in and around the building is curtailed (such as neighborhood disturbances or unruly school visitors), and experience with locking down the school perimeter, classrooms, and common areas to keep students safe in a secure area until the circumstance passes.
Any visitor to the school is asked to sign in at the main office. The driver's license of the visitor is scanned through Visitor ID and a name badge is printed. Please remind emergency contacts for your child that this protocol is mandatory.
Please be reminded that the school day begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. School doors open at 7:55 a.m. and some buses are called at 2:45 p.m. to prevent a traffic jam on Evening Street. There is no adult supervision for children prior to 7:55 a.m. At recess, the supervision ratio is 1 adult to 50 students, which we maintain at recesses during the day.
The Worthington wrestling club is having a beginners camp in October on Monday and Wednesday nights. The link is below. Both boys and girls are welcome in the club. Girls wrestle other girls, boys wrestle other boys. Sign up on the Google Form
