Arctic Winter Games: Embracing our Northern and Arctic Athletes
During our morning Healthy Living announcements for the month of January, our school community has been learning about the Arctic Winter Games. The Arctic Winter games are a world sport competition for northern and arctic athletes. The Games provide an opportunity for the developing athlete to compete in friendly competition while sharing cultural values from northern regions around the world. The 2020 Arctic Winter games takes place in March in Whitehorse and this year marks the 50th anniversary!
Our students have been so excited to learn and try out some arctic events that we decided to have our very own today! Throughout the month, teachers and students have been learning about the traditions behind the events. Today, students had the opportunity to challenge themselves in five categories: One Foot High Kick, Scream Run, Seal Kick, Snow Snake, Sledge Jump, and Kneel Jump. It was an awesome day and the kids loved it!
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm

We LOVE to Read...Who was it? Who will it be?
This week our Mystery Reader was Ms. Bourassa, Grade 3 Teacher, who shared a favourite library story about Scaredy Squirrel, who is actually brave.
See if you can guess who next year's first Mystery Reader is?

It's the Season of Surveys-what is the difference? Accountability and Assurance
Accountability Pillar Survey: Provincial Survey (Jan. 16-Feb. 22)
The annual Accountability Pillar Survey is sent out by the Alberta government in January. Parents and students in grade 4-8, and teachers will complete the survey. Families will receive a mailed survey from Alberta Education in the month of January and students will complete the survey at school. As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta Education to ensure that we are equipping students for success.
EICS Assurance Survey: Our district survey (Jan. 27-Feb. 20)You should have received an email with this survey link: EICS Assurance Survey
The provincial Accountability survey provides valuable insight to some measures of our school, with results in October. Our EICS Assurance Survey for staff, students, and parents emphasizes the collaborative commitment to work together with all stakeholders and create a goal-orientated plan for our school. This is referred to as our School Assurance Plan.
*Our Assurance Plan focuses on shared goals, highlights successes and enhances challenges, and is directly tied to priority-based budgeting for our school community.*
Adding Lego & Puzzles to our Learning Commons has been a huge hit! Stay tuned for our STEM projects and MakerSpace additions!
