Science
Hi Scientists,
This week students explored Earth’s place in our universe by investigating constellations. We wrapped up the week completing our middle of year MAP testing.
Next week, we will be diving into gravity! Students will practice their graphing techniques to understand the relationship between mass and gravity and distance and gravity. They will finish up next week applying their knowledge by doing a jump lab by calculating how much they weigh on other celestial bodies.
Next week we will begin our Term 3 roots and will end the week with our first Roots quiz of the new year on Friday! Our roots for next week are:
*angle = corner, point of view (Think: triangle, quadrangle)
mega=large, million, (think: megalosaurus, megabyte)
*deci =1/10 or .1 (think: deciliter, decimal)
*semi=half (think: semicolon, semicircle)
Dodeca=twelve (think: dodecagon, dodecahedron)
World Geography
Last Week students continued to analyze data that shows barriers to school, with a formative exit ticket on reading data. Students started their UN summative project, receiving their partner, country, and packet for their opening statement. If they do NOT finish their part of the opening statement, they will have homework this weekend. All resources can be found digitally via world geography canvas announcement page.
This Week students will begin their UN simulation with speeches for their countries. They will continue in a formal and informal debate format, closing out with voting on final resolutions for our education committee. They will close out their week with Journey's to School documentary.
English Language & Arts (ELA)
Hello, Deal Family! Please be advised if your student missed a day between Wednesday through Friday last week (1/22-1/24): The students are comparing the novel Tuck Everlasting to the movie. The movie has been presented in 3 segments in class. IF YOUR STUDENT MISSED A DAY, they need to touch base with me immediately because this is not a movie that can easily be caught up on at home (it is on Disney Plus, but for families that do not have streaming services, it has to be paid for. I show it on additional times for absent students, but it is rather limited. Please email me if this is a concern for you!)
Next week’s schedule:
Monday – no school
Tuesday – Writing body paragraphs/thesis
Wednesday – Writing essay
Thursday – Writing essay
Friday – Writing essay
**January Book Reports are due on FRIDAY, January 31st. This will be a grade for term 3. Book report options are still on Canvas under Announcements.
I am still in desperate need of hand sanitizer and tissue box donations! Please send in your student with tissue boxes and hand sanitizer so we can make it through the winter germ-free!
