Principal Message
Hello Waubesa Families,
We hope you enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend with your family. This is a very exciting week at Waubesa as we prepare for our 2nd graders as they visit on Thursday, May 30 for their transition tour and Friday, May 31 is our annual Olympiad. So many fun memories will be made this week!
We ask that you take a moment to view this short 2-minute video regarding some updated protocols for when parents/guardians or family members drop off or pick up students or items during the school day. Thanks for viewing this to help ensure the safety of all of our students, staff, and visitors.
Thank you for your ongoing support this school year. If you have any questions, suggestions, or shout outs, we encourage you to use this form.
McFarland Pride,
Corey Shefchik - Principal
Kelly Vetter - Associate Principal
Safety Drill
School safety is a priority in the McFarland School District. At Waubesa, we take several
steps to ensure your child is safe and our school is secure. A critical component of our safety plan is ensuring that students and staff members are prepared in the event that we need to evacuate the school (e.g. fire at school, etc.). On May 14th, at approximately 2:00 pm, we conducted an "Evacuation" drill.
Before the drill, we made an announcement that clearly explained to students that it was just a drill prior to the fire alarm being turned on. The entire procedure lasted approximately 5 minutes. Before the fire alarm was activated, students were reminded (as we have done during each of our previous drills and safety discussions) that schools are often some of the safest places to be and that these skills students and staff learn about safety can be applied anywhere, both in school and out of school. Our goal is always to make this experience a useful practice of the procedures, without alarming students.
If you have any questions about the drill, please feel free to contact Kelly Vetter at 838-4609.
Spring is Here!
Spring is here at the intermediate school and with heat comes the need to send a reminder about hygiene! At this age, students may need assistance with self-awareness of their body odor. We ask that you please encourage, if necessary: an increase in showers, applying deodorant, and change out socks and shoes. We REALLY APPRECIATE your partnership in the fight against body odor!

Ticks in Wisconsin
Spring is here and ticks are active! There are many diseases that can be spread by ticks in Wisconsin; including Lyme disease and Rocky mountain spotted fever. Most tickborne diseases in Wisconsin are spread by the black-legged tick (also known as the deer tick). To prevent Lyme disease and other illnesses spread by ticks, it’s important to carefully remove attached ticks as soon as possible and get rid of them. As you spend more time outdoors, be sure to check for ticks and remember these tips to help prevent tick bites. See Ticks in Wisconsin: What You Need to Know for more information.
