Weekly Update from Team Tikal

Many students are now carrying around broken binders and folders. If you get a chance, please check in with your child to see if they need a new one.

Math 7 will complete Lessons 8 to Lesson 10 in unit 5 as we continue to work on subtracting rational numbers as well as multiplying positive and negative numbers.

Math 8 will complete Lesson 7 to Lesson 9 in Unit 5 as we work on Linear functions and graphs.

All students will complete their “middle of year I-ready assessment” as well as their 18th I-Ready lesson completion (2nd lesson of the term).

This week students took the DCPS required MAP test. If you would like to see how your child did, please email me at christine.baker@k12.dc.gov to request a copy. The creators of the test estimate that most students should grow by 3-4 points by the end of the school year.

We will now continue our Genetics unit by working Punnett Square problems backwards and then will begin pedigrees.

This week the scholars learned about the Zhou Dynasty. The Scholars learned about the Mandate of Heaven and that the Zhou used it to justify their rebellion and the dynastic cycle that shows the rise and fall of all Chinese Dynasties. The scholars learned about Feudalism and how it led to Warring States Period of China and the rise of the Qin and Chinese philosophies. Next week in individuals and societies the scholars will learn about the Chinese Philosophies and go to the library to research their topic for the summative essay.
