East Middle School
From The Principal
EMS families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the end of what has been an amazing school year! Time has flown, and I’m not quite sure how we got here so quickly. This year, we placed a strong emphasis on student accountability and ownership of learning, and it has been truly inspiring to watch our students reflect on their academic progress and set meaningful goals. The growth we saw from fall to winter was incredible, and I’m confident we’ll see even more gains this spring.
Thank you for sharing your children with us. It is an absolute joy to come to work each day and be part of their journey. Whether it’s laughing together, being inspired by their kindness, or hearing their stories, there’s never a dull moment—and my heart is full because of them. To our 8th graders and our 8th grade parents, we wish you all the best as you transition to high school. You are a special group, and I know you will thrive in this next chapter. To our 6th and 7th graders, I’m excited to watch you grow into leadership roles next year and continue building on the momentum we’ve created.
I am incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our families throughout the year. From our amazing PTO to the many volunteers and supporters behind the scenes, your involvement has made a real difference. So many of the wonderful events and opportunities our students and staff have experienced wouldn’t have been possible without you—thank you!
While much of my time is already spent planning for next year, we’ll be sending out beginning-of-the-year dates soon so you can mark your calendars. But for now, let’s not rush. In just a few weeks, we’ll take a well-deserved break—a time to relax, reconnect with family and friends, revisit hobbies or try something new. Be present and intentional in these moments—they pass by quickly. Please encourage your child to finish strong, and from all of us here, we wish you a safe, joyful, and restful summer.
Warmly,
Melissa Titsworth
Principal

Policies
Dress Code & Policy Reminders
With the days warming up, students tend to test the limits of what is, or what is not, acceptable dress for school, as well as general policies & procedures, so please take a moment to remind them of these rules:
- No hats or hoods allowed during the school day.
- Shorts should have a minimum of a 3 inch inseam. If the shorts need to be adjusted all day due to riding up, they are not long enough.
- No crop tops - stomachs should not be exposed at all.
- No shirts with spaghetti straps or visible undergarments - straps should be 3 fingers wide at the top of the shoulder.
- Clothing should not contain any inappropriate logos/graphics.
- No cell phones, headphones or earbuds/airpods are allowed during the school day. They should be turned off and put away from the time the students enter the school building until the end of the day.
Technology News
Parents & Guardians: Please try to be aware of dangerous and/or destructive social media trends! These online “challenges” can turn into real-life actions with serious consequences. One recent trend intentionally damages student Chromebooks and can cause injury and possibly even start a fire. Aside from the obvious safety concerns, damaging school property can lead to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from school, as per our GBCS Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook (available on the district website). Please talk to your student about the consequences of these challenges that are usually not mentioned online.
Library Books
In order to get our collection ready for next year, it's important that students return all library books by May 23rd. Any books that have been lost should be reported to Mrs. Pallay in the library. Fines for lost items can be paid for using SchoolPay - https://gbcs.schoolpay.com/
Final Donut Days!
The EMS PTO will offer it's final donut sales of the year on May 21 & June 4. Donuts are available from 7:55-8:05 a.m. and the cost is $2 for 1 or $5 for 3.
Also of note from the PTO, the May meeting has been canceled. We would like to thank all of our PTO participants this year for their hard work. See you in September!
