Hello Hornet!

Happy Cinco De Mayo! We hope you're enjoying the festive spirit as we enter the final stretch of the school year. With just 4 weeks left until graduation and 5 weeks of school remaining, it's important to stay focused and determined.

Remember, there are no valid excuses for not completing your school work. We have various resources available to support you, including Nest Hour tutoring, assistance in the TLC, teachers' classrooms, and afterschool tutoring. As the saying goes, "closed mouths don't get fed." Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Let's use our voices and ensure we have everything we need to succeed!

In other news, the Spring Pep Rally was a tremendous success! We were honored to have The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society attend and receive a check of over $65,000 for cancer research. Our students have truly made a difference the HORNET way!

Last week our Baseball team secured a victory against La Plata! Unfortunately, the Softball team faced a challenging defeat. On a brighter note, our Girls Lacrosse team emerged triumphant over St. Charles, and our Tennis team displayed great determination in a closely contested game against Leonardtown. It's SMAC time! This week, our Tennis team will be competing at North Point High School, while the Track team is heading to St. Charles High School, both participating in their respective SMAC Tournaments. As the regular season games for our baseball and softball teams come to an end, they will be hosting their last matches. We wish all our teams the best of luck this week, you got this! Come out to see a student directed One Act at the Spring Festival of the Arts on May 11th. It starts with four people wake up in a room with no memory of who they are or how they got there—and no way out. As they’re put through a series of increasingly dangerous trials, they start to realize they’re actually part of a secret interview process.

Zach Braden has continued to accel in Track and Field! He currently holds the following school records:

400 Meter Dash - 49.04 seconds

200m Meter Dash - 21.14 seconds

100 Meter Dash - 10.34 seconds

Mr. Mascia led a group of students to see Macbeth, starring Ralph Fiennes, at The Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington DC. It was an amazing experiences!

Naval Horizons is an essay contest introducing students to cutting-edge STEM topics impacting the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The STEM topics in the video series include space, weather, aerospace, optometry, epidemiology, machine learning and more! Safety for everyone is a top priority! I want to remind everyone that under no circumstance should we open an exterior door to allow entry to anyone. Even if you think they are student do not open doors and direct them to the main office doors for entry. Everyone, including students, should enter through the main office.

How did your grades look in the first marking period? Looking to recover those grades to a passing grade?

The Learning Center (TLC) will be available during One Lunch. TLC will support students who need additional help in their graduation-required courses. Any students who are interested in the TLC need to report to Room F12 during One Lunch. School Year 2024-2025​

• Anyone wishing to compete for a place on a team is expected to be at all tryouts.

• First Day of Fall Sports Tryouts - August 14, 2024

• First Day of Winter Sports Tryouts - November 15, 2024

• First Day of Spring Sports Tryouts - March 1, 2025

FamilyID

• All interested athletes are expected to be present from day one and have all required documentation fully completed if they wish to compete for a place on the team. For online registration go to www.familyid.com and use "Find a program" to select your high school. Failure to submit all required electronic data entry/forms/cards by the deadline set by the high school will necessitate the exclusion of the student.

Preparticipation Physical Evaluation

• Sports physicals are valid for 12 months. It is recommended you attain your sports physical during the months of June or July annually.

• History Form - To be filled out prior to examination by the patient or parent/guardian and provided to the Physician.

• Physical Examination Form - To be completed by the Physician and kept in their office in the patient’s medical file.

• Medical Eligibility Form - This is the ONLY form that should be submitted to the school.

Corollary Sports Program

• The Corollary Sports program is offered as an alternative program to the mainstream high school athletics program, with team rosters composed of both students with or without disabilities. For more information please visit the Corollary Sports Page.
