Just a reminder that if you split your band payments into installments, your first payment is due. You can pay via cash or check to Mrs. Stone, or pay on the band website by clicking the button below. Please be prompt with payments, I have to order many items that do not arrive as quickly as they used to. If you are having an issue with payment, contact Mr. Dixon directly.

On Cinco de Mayo we will have our inaugural BAND OLYMPICS! The goal of the leadership team was to have some spring events to get everyone together. Lots of trips this year prevented some of that, so we are putting it in May!

• Bracket System Section vs. Section
• Trophies for each event
• 2023 Band Olympics Champion (all event ranks added up...like All-Region auditions)
• 5pm-7pm in the STADIUM!

Every year on the LAST THURSDAY of school we have our MANDATORY End Of Year Marching Camp. Well, typically it is on the last day. This year it will be on the second to last day and go a little shorter than normal. Details are below.

• 4:00pm Incoming freshmen arrive at the band hall to receive marching instruments. Concert instruments could be ready as well.
• 5:00pm Full Band begins with music in the band hall or Montgomery Center (MC)
• 6:15pm Outside for a short Marching rehearsal in WISD Stadium
• 7:30pm Parent meeting & Hot Dog TWB Family Picnic in the Montgomery Center (MC)

Don't ask me if you can miss a mandatory event. It will make my head hurt and possibly explode. We have one of the top music programs in the state and nation. We didn't get that way by missing rehearsals or mandatory fun time.

We will be taking 2 band trips next year.

• TWB takes a full marching band trip every year to San Antonio in anticipation to qualify for the UIL State Marching Championships. This trip will be around $300-$400. If we qualify for State, it will be $300. If we do not, it will be $400. This will be explained at the end of year marching band meeting.
• The Wind Symphony was accepted to play in New York and give a concert at Carnegie Hall. I proposed a concert for all bands and not just the Wind Symphony and it was APPROVED! If you don't know the history and significance of Carnegie Hall, just click below. This trip will be around $2,100. The dates would be March 7-11, 2024

The age old question...How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.

You work SO HARD....don't cook on these nights...take a night off and support your local restaurants and your local band kids.

NEW- We will perform at the Backyard Spirit Night on Tuesday, May 9th to get more people to the restaurant. Jazz band parents- feel free to stay and eat while they play!

Great job at our drumline workshops everyone! Continue to consistently practice the exercises listed on our fundamental objectives page.

Drumline auditions will wrap up on Monday, and drumline positions will be posted this week.

Goals after positions are announced:

1. Learn part 1 of the marching show. This will be copied and handed out this week.

2. Learn all drumline cadences and stand tunes. This will be copied and handed out this week.

Solo & Ensemble THIS SATURDAY. Schedule has been narrowed down - all performances fall between 12-2:30pm in the Montgomery Center. Final performance schedule to be released around lunch on Monday.

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2023-24. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.

SERVICE AWARD

Camaraderie Level of Service 10-30 points | Excellence in Service 40+ Points

1. Work 4 hours of service- Sports Concessions Stands (typically 2 hours per game), Contest or Concert setup/hosting at designated JH/HS band event. Each hour of service is worth 10 points. You may work more than 4 hours, however no more than 40 points can be obtained towards a letter jacket.
2. Participate in all Band Contests during the year.
3. No absence from any performance unless excused by the Band Director prior to the performance.

Note: Due to the increasing numbers of Band students wishing to letter each year, the Band Director may establish alternative means of meeting the Service requirements. Those students who cannot work in the concession stand on Tuesday or Thursday nights should check with the Band Director during football season to obtain alternate Service credit.

We have some great offerings for music camps this summer. Click on the flyer below for more information. These are wonderfully affordable and gets you out of the house making music with others! Summer music camps are a great way to have a different musical experience than our traditional band classes. Sign up with a friend. It is REALLY fun (parents, it gets your kid out of the house in the summer).
