PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hiteon Community,
We are very excited to begin the school year and have your children back in the building! To kick off the year, we have our first gathering this Thursday at “Meet Your Teacher Night”! Wednesday afternoon your family will receive an email from the teacher welcoming everyone to their class. Thursday, after meeting the teacher, we encourage you to go to the playground for a cold treat and community building with our Hiteon family. We hope to see you on Thursday!
This year we are hoping that families consider volunteering their time during the many volunteer opportunities we have both during the day and after school. Please consider stopping by our PTC table on Thursday to learn more about how you can support and enrich our students’ experience at Hiteon. We’d love to have your help!
As we get closer to the first day of school, families begin preparing for the transition from summer break to coming to school. As you think about all of the things that need to happen before August 28th, you may want to consider looking at the free breakfast and lunch financial requirements for this year. (EIG table below) It is designed so that many families will qualify for this service. You may say to yourself that you do not need a free lunch or breakfast. While there is no obligation to take the free lunch and breakfast, many parents find that the free breakfast is a great snack for later in the day instead of having to pack the daily snack for their children. Additionally, please know that this is highly confidential and that no one at Hiteon will know whether a child has paid money or if it is a free meal.
There is a lot of information in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 503-356-2140. Wishing you and your students a great last week of Summer!

Hiteon Tours for New Families
Greetings Hiteon Families,
We are excited to offer building tours for any students K-5 that are new to the Hiteon community. If you have a kindergartner but have other children attending Hiteon, this tour may not be for your family. The tours will be held on Thursday, August 24, during the Meet Your Teacher event between 4:30 - 5:30 pm. Fifth-grade student leaders and our specialist teachers will give families a tour of the building. Please take a moment to fill out the attached Google form so we can plan accordingly for all our NEW Families!
The tours will begin at the main yellow entrance near the office. There will be signs to help you find your way.

ATTENDANCE & STUDENT DISMISSAL PLANS
HITEON'S DAILY SCHEDULE
7:45 – Cafeteria opens for breakfast
8:00 - School promptly begins
2:35 - Dismissal
Attendance is very important to student success!
Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:00 am. Students are expected to be at school and on time every day that they are healthy. Additionally, we appreciate your efforts to schedule appointments after school hours.
We also appreciate your efforts to make sure students enter the school building no earlier than 7:45 am and no later than 7:55 am. Arriving by 7:55 am allows students to calmly report to class and settle before the school day begins at 8:00 am.
ABSENCES
If your child will be absent or arriving late, please call the school at 503-356-2140, follow the prompts to leave a message regarding that absence. Messages may be left in the attendance voice mailbox 24 hours a day. Please call before 8:15 a.m. on the day of the absence. If it is not possible to report the absence before 8:15 a.m., please call the school office, at 503-356-2140. If a student’s parent does not call or fill out the Attendance Notification Form to report an absence or tardy, a courtesy call will be made to the student’s home to determine the reason for the student not being in school.
SUPERVISION
For your child’s safety, students must NOT arrive at school prior to supervision (7:45) and must not remain after supervision hours (2:35) unless they are involved in a supervised after-school activity.
Students who stay on school property past dismissal of 2:35 PM must have parent supervision.
ATTENDANCE MONITORING
Teachers and the principal will monitor student attendance. The parents of students with excessive absences or tardies will receive written communication from the principal, alerting them to the problem. We will be following ORS 339.065, which states:
Eight unexcused one-half day absences in any four-week period during which the school is in session shall be considered irregular attendance. Students who meet these criteria will be reported to ODE as truant. Excused absences are not to exceed five days in a term of three months or not to exceed ten days in any term of at least six months.
LATE ARRIVAL
A student who is not in the school building at 8:00 a.m. is considered tardy. A student who is tardy must check in at the office before going to class. This procedure not only helps us keep track of student tardiness but also serves to maintain the accuracy of our attendance records.
LEAVING EARLY
Please try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school hours whenever possible.
For your child’s safety, our school operates under a closed-campus policy. This policy requires the school office to be notified when:
Parents are taking children out of school for appointments, vacations, or transfers.
Parents or visitors enter the building for any reason.
A child is not allowed to have contact with a specific person by court order.
If you must take your child out of school before the end of the school day, please send a note to the teacher and have the note verified in the office so that your child will be prepared to leave school at the designated time.
When coming to school to pick up your child, please report to the school office. Be prepared to show a photo ID every time you pick up your child early. You must sign your child out in the office. The office will then call your child out of class to meet you in the office. Parents may not go directly to classrooms to get their children.
If a child leaves school and returns to school on the same day, she/he must report to the office before returning to class.
STUDENT DISMISSAL PLANS & CHANGES
At the beginning of the year, teachers ask parents to provide information about students’ regular dismissal plans. Teachers work very hard to ensure students leave school according to these plans.
Any change to a student’s regular dismissal plan requires a written note (dated and signed) from the parent/guardian. This note must be signed by both the teacher and someone from the office. The office staff keeps track of these changes. Parents are encouraged to plan ahead and make changes to student dismissal plans before the child arrives at school. Students will not be allowed to arrange after-school play dates during the school day. If there is a same-day change, you may call the office before 1:30 pm. Also, for safety reasons, we will not release students after 2:15 PM. They will be released at the 2:35 dismissal time. If we receive no written note or phone call, we will always honor the regular plan.

PARKING LOT LOGISTICS FOR ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
Remember, we have two different student building entrances depending on your child’s grade level. Below is an explanation of the arrival locations.
All students in all grades arriving by car will be dropped off at the main entrance (Yellow Zone Entrance).
Due to safety concerns and streamlining arrival and dismissal procedures, we will not have 4th and 5th grades using the Green Entrance during Arrival or Dismissal.
Cars can enter the parking lot for arrival and dismissal from Brockman and Davies. But cars can ONLY exit the parking from through Brockman. Picture below.
URGENT: DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAY TO THE FIRE STATION!!
.
Please do not send students to school before 7:45 am. We have no adult supervision until 7:45, and when students arrive at 7:45, they go directly to their classrooms or to get breakfast.
Also, remember we have three different building entries depending on your child’s grade level. Below is an explanation of the arrival locations.
Arrival Locations:
Kindergarten & First Grades: Enter at the PURPLE Door
Second thru Fifth Grades: Enter at the YELLOW Door
Navigating Hiteon’s Parking Lot - see picture above
Yellow Zone entrances from Brockman is open for parking and drop-off.
(There is no through traffic in these areas)
Purple Zone entrance - No parking, no drop-off, and no pick up during Arrival or Dismissal (Buses & Daycare Drop Off Only).
Drop off is at the Yellow Zone but the Kindergarteners and First Graders enter the building through the Purple Zone. We prefer you walk your child into Hiteon and/or use our parent drop-off lane.
Students arriving by car will be dropped off at the main entrance (Yellow Entrance) and then walk to their grade level entrances.
Dismissal Locations:
Walkers & Bike Riders will dismiss from the playground by their teacher
Bus Riders will walk to the buses near the Purple Entrance
Car pickup will be for all grades at the Yellow Entrance (Main Entrance)
Regular Car pickups will be give a bright pink car signs the first week of school by Mrs. Sadlouskos. Please use your bright pink car signs. Place sign on your passenger window before arriving to the Yellow pickup location. This will help staff pull your students quicker.
If your child is not able to get out of the car quickly, you may need to park in the parking lot and walk your child to the entrance at arrival time. Remember for safety only cross the parking lot at the designated cross walk located in the Yellow Zone entrance.
Thank you all for your cooperation with the arrival and dismissal procedures.

STUDENT VERIFICATIONS & PARENTVUE
Before the beginning of every school year, we request that parents/guardians review and update their family and student information. Keeping your family's information up-to-date is crucial to receiving timely communication from the district and ensuring that you can be contacted in case of emergency. These updates can be done online through your ParentVUE account.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/information-technology/parentvue-studentvue/backtoschool
ParentVUE is a web portal that allows parents and guardians access to near real-time information on attendance, class schedules, class websites, course history, grade book, report cards and more.
Access to ParentVUE requires a username and password, which parents/guardians set up with an Activation Key code. Please review the guides below to help you setup your account. If you have questions or would like assistance with ParentVUE, please contact the main office at 503-356-2140
