Dear Parents and Guardians,

As the holiday season approaches, I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and partnership in fostering a thriving and supportive school community. It has been a wonderful semester filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences for our students.

I am writing to provide you with important details regarding the upcoming holiday break. School will be closed starting Monday, December 23 and will resume on Monday, January 6. During this time, I encourage everyone to take a well-deserved break, spend quality time with loved ones, and recharge for the new year ahead.

Please keep in mind the following:

1. Attendance and Academics: Ensure that your child completes any assignments or projects due after the break and prepares for any upcoming assessments. A structured routine can help ease the transition back to school.

2. Safety and Well-being: The well-being of our students is our top priority. Please remind your children to stay safe, whether at home or while engaging in holiday activities. Should you need any resources or support during this time, do not hesitate to reach out.

3. School Communication: The school office will be closed during the holiday break. However, for any urgent matters, please feel free to email us at kelleys@wwcsd.net. We will respond as promptly as possible.

On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you a joyous holiday season filled with peace, love, and happiness. Why: If you are not submitting your own headshot that meets the requirements (headshot, indoors, solid background like a school photo, etc.) by Friday, December 20, 2024 AND you do not want your ID photo used. If you are submitting your own photo or you are ok with using your ID photo, you do not need to sign up.

Great news! For your ease and convenience, there is an app that has been created to have quick access to your Parent and Student Connection. In your Google App or Play store, type in “MiStar” and you will have the option to download the “Q ParentConnection” app for yourself and also the “Q StudentConnection” app for your child. I downloaded it and found it to be very easy to use. The convenience of having an app, rather than locating the website and looking up my PIN and password each time was great. I highly recommend downloading if you have a device.

If you get the app, you can select the “Re-Enrollment” in the drop down menu to submit your information that way as well.

We’re excited to announce the grand opening of our very own Community Financial Student-Run Credit Union right here at John Glenn High School! Students can open an account or make deposits every Monday during their lunch period on campus and manage their funds at Community Financial Credit Union branches, online at cfcu.org, or through the mobile app! To help your student grow their green, have them sign up for a Community Financial Credit Union free student checking account at cfcu.org/scu. After your student swipes their new account’s connected debit card three times, they’ll receive a $50 deposit into their account!

Once you make an account, assign yourself to John Glenn High School Westland and request that John Glenn send your transcript to the colleges, universities, trade schools, NCAA eligibility centers, etc. Our counseling secretary looks at the account and electronically sends out the transcripts.

• Be sure that you are monitoring your classwork and passing all of your classes. Passing classes keeps you on track for graduation.
• As a reminder here are links to your graduation requirements: Cohort 2028 & Cohort 2025, 2026, 2027 If you have any questions about graduation requirements please reach out to your counselor. Here is the link to set up a meeting with your counselor.
• Any students who are interested in Dual Enrollment please make sure to reach out to your counselor by November 1st for the 2nd semester. Schoolcraft College is holding a Virtual Dual Enrollment Information Night Wednesday, October 30 from 6-7pm for new students. Click HERE to register. Pre-registration is required. After registering, they will send an email with a registration confirmation that includes the meeting ID.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.). They are also able to provide school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their services.

The Corewell Health John Glenn Teen Clinic is open! We provide physicals, hearing and vision screenings, immunizations, sick care, and asthma management. We are grant-funded and accept all insurance. However, no patient will be turned away for inability to pay.
