Language Arts
๐ This week students will finish working with an excerpt from the first chapter of Cinder, a science-fiction book by Marissa Meyer.
๐ Students will:
Write a summary of the text
Complete the Cinder Quiz
Complete an IXL Skills Quiz
Write a constructed response/R.A.C.E. response for a question related to the text Cinder
๐ฉ๐ผโ๐ป Later in the week students will begin working with the informational article, โThe Biometric Body,โ by Kathiann M. Kowalski. This text offers a primer on biometrics. The science of biometrics involves using fingerprints and other personal, physical markers to confirm a personโs identity. Graphics detail the many ways that biometrics are already in use, including fingerprints, eye scans, and facial recognition. First-person interviews with experts are combined with thorough research to form a complete picture of biometrics today. In addition to highlighting some benefits of biometrics, Kowalski also shares some of the concerns that technology and security professionals have raised about biometrics.
๐ This text helps to build background knowledge for students. Biometrics is a newer technology and is becoming a more common alternative to password security. This informational text offers an unbiased perspective about the basics of biometrics, its benefits, and its risks.
๐ Homework:
15-20 minutes of reading from a book of their choice.
Work that students are unable to complete during class.
Work that students miss when they are out of school for sickness, travel, etc.

Science
๐ฆ๏ธ Last week in science class we learned about the characteristics of air and the atmosphere. This week we are moving on to air pressure and wind. Students will be investigating the relationship between changing air pressure and wind. They will develop a particle model for air pressure, then make inferences about wind movement on a large scale.
๐ก๏ธ We also continue to document the weather daily using a weather website. Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we will be using our own instruments to measure the weather and document it.
๐ฏ We will be completing our investigations on air pressure and wind by Thursday. There will be an open-book quiz on Friday. Please remember that your child may not retake an open-book quiz. Thank you and have a wonderful week!
Social Studies
๐๏ธ For the remainder of the week, we will continue to explore the relationship between people and the environment. We will examine population trends, migration patterns, and the challenges of overpopulation and suburban sprawl. Students will also discuss sustainable solutions, such as using renewable resources and pollution-reducing technologies, to address these global challenges.
Art
๐ฉท I am so glad to have been able to mentor your young artists this first half of the school year! I am excited to meet my new incoming students and start the second half with those students who have me all year long!
