Tigerville Times
February 2025 Edition
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Tigerville Families,
Happy February! We’ve had a wonderful start to the new year, and there’s so much to look forward to this month. As we head into the heart of the winter season, our students continue to work hard and make great progress in their learning. Here are a few updates and highlights:
Important Dates:
- February 3-7 – Student Council Pet Food Drive
- February 10 – Family Night at Tigerville (PTA 5 pm, Family Fitness 5:15 pm, Reading Round Up 5:45 pm)
- February 10-14 – PTA Coin Clash
- February 17 – No School – Presidents' Day
With the colder weather upon us, please make sure your child comes to school dressed warmly. We will continue to have outdoor recess whenever possible, so a warm coat, hat, and gloves are important for keeping your child comfortable.
Thank you for your continued support! We look forward to another great month of learning and fun at school.

Art Lines
February brings us the bold colors of RED, PINK, and FUSCIA along with our creative expressive side of making valentines for those we love. Art is a vital part of expressing ourselves! The ground-hog has said 6 more weeks of winter but we may need to just look out the window everyday to see how snuggled and cozy or free and springy, we need to dress each day! There is a lot going on in the art room. We have been working hard on our annual Litter Trashes Everyone art contest and we will soon choose the Tigerville Participant that will represent our school at the state level of the contest. We have had three students to have their art on display at the Greenville County School District Elementary Art Show from February 7th-20th. Congratulations to Dalton Corn, 2nd grade, Liam Bruce, 4th grade, and Gunner Grove 5th grade for their wonderful art work. I would like to conclude with information about the ARMES program which is shared in this publicity release from the school district. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or are interested in nominating your child to the program. I will be happy to talk to you!

Counselor's Corner
Spring is on the horizon! 5th graders are getting close to middle school registration, such an exciting time! They will get the opportunity to tour Blue Ridge Middle on Thursday, February 6th. On Thursday, February 20th, I will host a 5th grade Parent Informational meeting to answer any questions or address concerns before the registration process begins. The week before registration begins, there will be a form sent home with class options for you to make these selections ahead of time with your student. Students will use these forms to register for classes at school during my Related Arts class the week of February 24th – February 28th. As always, please feel free to reach out to me any time with questions!
Library Loop
Happy February from the Library! We are excited about the reading adventures ahead this month, and I want to share some exciting updates and events with you!
Students will continue to visit the library regularly for classes, independent reading, and book check-outs. If your child has a library book at home, please remind them to return it on their next library day so they can choose a new one!
We are winding up the Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars reading challenge this month. The last day to turn in reading logs is Feb. 14. The reading logs are available online at the Tigerville website. If your students needs a printed reading log, please have them stop by the library to see me.
Our Reading Round-Up is Monday, February 10 at 5:45 Pm. This event is especially for Tigerville families in grades K4-2nd grades. Please plan to join us to learn about strategies to support your student in reading. Also, REEDY, the Greenville Drive mascot will be here to meet Tigerville families and take pictures with students.
Thank you for your continued support of our library! Happy reading!
Music Notes
I can hardly believe it is February. One thing is for sure, I am ready for some warmer weather.
Chorus rehearsal date:
Feb. 4th, 11th, 18, 20th, 25th, 27th
March 3rd, 4th, and 6th
Performance date: March 10th and 11th
K is having fun playing the percussion instruments still and learning new ways to create rhythms using words. Also, a dance every-now-and-then is a lot of fun to throw in the mix. Please allow your student to log-in to Quaver at home and explore and learn more about music.
1st is learning all about the Instrument families. They will explore playing various types of insturments.
2nd is having fun playing songs on the Boom Whackers and other pitched instruments. This is fun for the students but also hard work because they are learning how to read music on the staff.
3rd-5th are on the Recorders. By this time, all students should have their own Recorder in my classroom. I still have several students who have not purchase a Recorder at this time so please make sure to get one as soon as possible so they don’t get too far behind.

STEM Lab Notes
This month STEM lab activities will connect to the Science standards that students are focusing on in class. Second graders will conduct experiments that help them learn more about the structure and properties of matter. In third grade, students will learn more about surviving in changing environments and animal adaptations by learning about animal blubber and creating an insulated glove out of recycled materials that mimics how blubber insulates some animals. Fourth graders will continue to learn about waves and different ways to relay information such as morse code. Fifth graders are beginning a month-long project where they will create posters showing the water cycle. They will then program a Dash robot to travel along the water cycle path displayed on their poster.
In K5 and first grade students will explore shadows this month. We will create our own groundhog puppets and use a flashlight to act as the sun creating shadows for our puppets. Students will explore how the shadow changes when they change the position of the flashlight and what happens to the shadow when the light is covered.
