Superintendent's Message
Loveland Tiger Families,
The shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia last week drives home the importance of school safety. Keeping our students safe is our school district's greatest responsibility, and I take it very seriously.
We have extensive safety plans at every building and review them regularly. Some safety measures you will notice, like SROs on our campuses and secure entrances to our buildings, and some you may not notice, like additional security cameras and the Raptor alert system I mentioned a few weeks ago. We conduct safety training and drills with students so they know how to respond if there is an emergency at school. We work closely with Loveland Police and held a full-scale safety drill at LECC back in May.
We also partner with families to provide support for student mental health - a key part of our #beLOVEland Strategic Vision. Building strong relationships with students and providing resources for mental health is not just what’s best for kids, but it’s also part of keeping our campuses safe. This year, we have increased our school psychologist support to help more students and families.
Please remind your kids that if they ever have a safety concern, they should speak up - when you see something, say something. They should talk to a trusted adult at home or at school if there is something that makes them feel unsafe. Families can pass their concerns on to their building principal or an SRO, and safety concerns can be reported 24 hours a day by going to our website and clicking on the button prominently displayed on the front page.
