As we move into the holiday season, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude for your ongoing support and partnership. December is a month filled with excitement and opportunities for learning and growth, and we’re looking forward to sharing these moments with you and your child.
Winter Weather Preparedness:
As winter weather can be unpredictable, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor activities. We will continue to go outside for recess unless the temperature drops below 20 degrees. Please send your child with:
- Warm coats, hats, and gloves labeled with their name.
- Boots for snow
- Extra socks in case they get wet
Parent Tip of the Month:
The holidays are a wonderful time to slow down and spend quality time with family, but they can also bring about stress and a lot of distractions. Here are a few tips to help keep the holiday season joyful for your child:
- Establish a Routine – Keeping a consistent schedule during the holidays can help children manage excitement and feel secure.
- Encourage Gratitude – Ask your child to reflect on what they are thankful for this season, whether it's through a journal, drawing, or discussion.
- Limit Screen Time – While holiday movies and games can be fun, make sure to balance screen time with outdoor play or creative activities.
Thank You for Your Support!
We appreciate all the ways you contribute to our school community. Whether it's helping out in the classroom and penguin patch, or attending events like our Dion's family night and our upcoming Literacy Night, we are grateful for your involvement. Together, we make Fox Hollow a wonderful place for all students to grow and thrive.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and peaceful holiday season!

Holiday Season and School Attendance: A Reminder
As the holidays approach, we know many families have exciting plans, but we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining regular school attendance during this time. The weeks before the break are often filled with critical lessons, assessments, and preparations for the new term. Missing school can create gaps in learning that are difficult to catch up on. Make-up work does not fully help students recover missed instruction, and one student’s absence impacts classmates’ progress due to the collaborative nature of learning.
Every school day counts in helping your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage you to plan travel and events around the school calendar whenever possible. If you know your child will be absent, please let us know in advance so we can support their continued learning.
Thank you for helping us meet our attendance goals. Wishing you a joyful and safe holiday season!
Hello! Most of our P.E. classes are doing hockey right now. Students are working on stick handling, passing, shooting on goals, and skills used in game play. We are working hard so that if the Avs give us a call, we’ll be ready!
Kindergarten students have been working all year on being able to say their full name. We have moved on to family names – not Mom and Dad, but Karen and Tom, for example. We are also working on knowing a phone number to call in case they would get separated from you in a store or something. As far as physical activity, students are working on throwing, catching, defending a target, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Ask them to tell you about the games they are playing!
Once again, here is your friendly reminder that we will have Field Day in May. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 9, 20205! This fun-filled day is a student favorite and we LOVE to have lots of parent volunteers for it! There will be more information about this in 2025!
Thank you!
Sabrina McKenna
Fox Hollow Families!
Greetings from the Music classroom. I’m very grateful to be a part of your community. The connections I’ve made with parents and families so far this year have been incredible. Please feel free to stop me on the sidewalk and introduce yourself. I’d love to get to know you and your students better.
We are about halfway through our most recent unit. Most classes are working through a rotation of musical centers that review some of the concepts and skills we have worked on so far this year. This allows us to not only review, but also practice collaborating with others and developing our social emotional skills around group decision making. Ask your student what their favorite activity is!
Choir Club News!
Starting next semester I will be re-opening the choir club enrollment for the second half of the year. Here are a few important details:
-
Please sign up again if your student is currently in choir club. However, you do not need to pay again if you already paid for them to participate in choir club this year.
-
In addition to 4th and 5th graders, I am opening up choir club this spring semester to 3rd grade as well!
Be on the lookout for a Google Form sign up for Choir Club in early January.

Typing resources: If you are interested, a site that my own personal children used to learn to type is edclub.com and the product typingclub. The site is free and you can create an individual account for your child. The site has lessons and tracks progress. This is a great activity for Winter Break!

HEARING SCREENINGS
We will be having hearing screenings on 12/9/2024-12/10/2025 for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th graders that are new to the district and/or have an IEP and 5th grade.
You will be notified if there are any concerns with your child’s hearing. Otherwise assume “no news is good news.” If you do not want your child to participate, please email Nurse Angie at aschiermeyer@cherrycreekschools.org.
Health and Wellness Reminders from CCSD Health Services
More information can be found at The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
How Sick is Too Sick? / (¿Qué tan enfermo es demasiado enfermo?)
The best way to remain healthy and prevent illness from spreading is through good handwashing habits (washing hands for 20 seconds with soap and warm water after using the bathroom, blowing nose, sneezing/coughing, and before/after eating), getting vaccinated for preventable diseases, and staying home when sick!
Stay home when sick!
- If your student is not feeling well enough to take part in their usual activities, due to illness symptoms, they should stay home.
- If your student needs to be picked up from school, have a plan in place to pick them up as soon as possible.
Fever
- Defined as a body temperature over 100.4° F.
- Students may return to school after being 24 hours fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen).
Vomiting/Diarrhea
- Students may return to school 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea unless it is caused by an illness that requires them to stay home longer.
- If your student has a medical condition that causes them to have a baseline of spit-up, reflux, or loose stools regularly, notify your school nurse, so we can best support your student's success.
- Remind students to cough into their elbow, this helps keep the hands clean from illness and can decrease the spread of illness.
- Keep your student home if the cough is severe or uncontrolled.
- If a cough lasts longer than 2 weeks, we encourage checking in with your healthcare provider.
Lice
Signs of lice:
- Itching of the scalp, presence of live lice, eggs attached to the hair shaft, and/or small pinpoint scabs at the base of the hairline.
- If live lice are present, students may remain in school until the end of the school day; however, they cannot return until after receiving an approved pediculicide treatment per CDPHE guidelines.
- Reminder: lice is a nuisance and not a public health concern.
- This means it is not a reportable infectious disease, as it does not spread disease.
- It is not due to poor hygiene habits.
- We do not send notification letters home when cases of lice are present.
- We do not perform routine classroom-wide lice checks.
Vaccines
- Many childhood/school-aged illnesses can be prevented by receiving routine vaccines. Talk with your provider or school nurse for more information.
Wishing all students, parents/guardians, and staff a healthy school year!
