2024-25 Registration/residency verification to begin in late July
The district's annual online registration and residency verification process will begin in late July. All families will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the process. Please read the entire email when you receive it as there are changes to this year’s process. The main change is that we have moved to a new Student Information System. We are no longer with Tyler/SIS, but are now using Infinite Campus. Therefore the registration process will look different.
**Please note that families will receive an email regarding activation of their new Parent Portal account with Infinite Campus in the next two weeks. Please make sure you click on the link when you receive it to activate your account. You will receive another email the week of July 22 with information on completing Registration/Residency Verification.
As with all changes, there will be bumps. We ask for your patience as we work through any issues that might happen.
Dieckhoff named Regional Teacher of the Year
Harrisonville Schools 2024 Educator of the Year Jason Dieckhoff has been named a Missouri Regional Teacher of the Year. Dieckhoff is one of six regional finalists in the Kansas City region.
Dieckhoff was named the district’s Educator of the Year in April which qualified him to submit an application for the Missouri Teacher of the Year Program. He is an agriculture teacher at Cass Career Center and has worked in the district for 21 years. Dieckhoff holds a bachelor’s degree in Ag Economics and Ag Education and a master’s in Ag Education from the University of Missouri. He was named a Golden Owl finalist as an Outstanding Agriculture Instructor in Missouri which put him in the top 7 in the state and top 39 in the nation this year. He received the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) Region IV & National Teacher Mentor Award in 2021. He holds an Honorary American FFA Degree and received the Harrisonville Chamber’s Educator of the Year Award and Frank Graham Outstanding Missouri 4-H Leader Award.
He will be honored at the Regional Teacher of the Year Luncheon in mid-July where he will receive a cash award and a plaque. He is also eligible to apply for the Missouri Teacher of the Year program. All regional finalists will be recognized at the Missouri Teacher of the Year banquet in October.

HHS student to be German foreign exchange student
Harrisonville High School sophomore Hayden Cave is heading out on the experience of a lifetime when she heads to Germany for a year as a foreign exchange student in August. Hayden is participating in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) which is a partnership between the U.S. State Department and the German government. She is one of 250 students from across the United States to earn this honor. Hayden has received a full merit-based scholarship covering all transportation, lodging, and all costs associated with the program.
Hayden said, “My mother was an exchange student when she was in high school through the Rotary Club and so I've always wanted to be an exchange student. A few years ago she and I began researching for exchange program scholarships and found CBYX.”
She added, “I chose Germany because ideally when I grow up I'd like to live in Germany, but also it's a very pretty country. When my mother went, she went to Belgium. I'm hoping that while I'm over there I can travel Europe as well and experience as much of the different European cultures as well as German cultures.”
Hayden will begin her year with a three-week language and culture camp, and then be sent to stay with her host family where she will participate in school and potentially extracurriculars, and return in June 2025.
Hayden is the daughter of Andrew and Kelly Cave.

What's Great Today?
Congratulations to...
- Harrisonville High School students Hailey Bagby and Kelsey Budzick attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy last week. Hailey served as a counselor and Kelsey was a participant. The Harrisonville Rotary Club sponsored Hailey as a participant in 2023 and Kelsey this year. RYLA is a 4-day, 3-night leadership academy designed to identify and enhance the qualities of servant leadership for each participant, educate them on how to successfully implement a service project, and inspire them to live a lifetime of "Service Above Self." It was held on the campus of the University of Central Missouri.
Four Harrisonville Middle School band students recently took part in a three-day Missouri State University Bands Alive Camp and two brought back top awards. Katherine Graeve, Preston Neal, Aaron Osborn, and Lillian Yoss attended the camp. Graeve was named Overall Outstanding Camper and Neal was one of two students to earn the Outstanding Musician Award.
Our Harrisonville High School Royal Regiment Drum Majors Brierly Hasek and Ethan Stone attended the Missouri State Band Alive Summer Camp last week. They participated in leadership training throughout the three-day camp. At the end of the camp, Hasek was named the Outstanding Drum Major out of the 48 students in attendance.

Harrisonville High School senior Jesse Murcia attended the Mizzou Mini Medical School summer program in early June. He had the opportunity to explore and learn what medical school is like at Mizzou. The students accepted for the program stayed on campus in Mizzou’s dorms, ate at the dining halls, and went through a week of medical school! After high school graduation, Jesse plans to attend college then medical school and specialize in sports medicine.
Cass Career Center and Harrisonville High School senior Emma Coffey earned a top 10 finish at the National Educator's Rising Conference in Washington, D.C. last week. Emma earned first place at the State Educators Rising conference and earned the trip to DC. Emma earned first in the “Explore Non-Core Subject Teaching Careers” category at State in early March. She interviewed and created a presentation focused on her marketing instructor Amy Schroeder and her work at CCC. At the national competition, Emma once again presented her work. Emma traveled to D.C. with her Teaching Professions Instructor Karli Snider. The four-day conference also included breakout sessions, keynote presentations, and opportunities to meet and interact with students and teachers from across the United States.
Recent Harrisonville High School graduate, Case Melzer, spent the last two weeks in Europe representing Missouri 4-H, and the United States while participating in dairy judging competitions. He and his team placed 2nd at the World Dairy Expo last fall, earning them a trip to compete at the Royal Highland show in Edinburgh, Scotland and the Charleville Show in Ireland. While in Europe, Case and his team had the opportunity to visit Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and England. They toured dairy farms and other agricultural entities in each country, and had the opportunity to see landmarks such as St. Andrews golf course, the Blarney Castle, and Buckingham Palace. Summer School in Action - Egg Drop
HMS summer school students enjoyed the Humpty Dumpty Challenge during the final week. They were challenged to build a parachute device with only the material provided. The device they created had to stay airborne for as long as possible from a fixed height and the egg inside had to land without damage. Pictured, Joey Leone drops his egg from the top of Memorial Stadium.
Supervised Ag Experience
Agriculture students are spending their summer working on their Supervised Ag Experience (SAE) projects. These projects give students the practical application to concepts they have learned in the classroom. Agriculture teachers, Mr. Dieckhoff and Mrs. Snyder, visit with students to check on their projects to see what students are learning. Pictured, Harrisonville High School sophomore Audri Shepherd checks on her laying hens.

We welcomed new teachers to the district at the annual New Teacher Social last week. Our newest #WildcatFamily members enjoyed dinner, met district and building administrators, received their laptops, and took a bus tour of the district. We can't wait for you to meet them in August!
Admin Team Building
The district admin team wrapped up their annual retreat in mid-June with a team building activity - an HGTV-inspired cooking challenge. The administrators were divided into teams to plan, shop & prepare three courses that included a “mystery” ingredient in each. The mystery ingredients were mangos, pistachios, & feta cheese. The winning team included HES & HHS principals Ashley Shrout & Mark Rorvig with Communications Director Jill Filer.
