JACKSON MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of Jackson Elementary School is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment in order to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students.
JACKSON VISION STATEMENT:
We are mission-driven, highly motivated, and maintain the highest expectations for ourselves, our students, and our colleagues. Our students are precious, and we will treat them kindly and with love every day. All of our students will succeed academically no matter what! Our tenacity and focus on what’s best for our children will guide our actions every day.
Hello Jackson Families!
This week our K-5th grade students will be taking the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth Assessment. MAP testing allows us to identify each student's strengths and areas for improvement. Our teachers will be able to use these results to tailor their instruction to meet the needs of each and every student. Please see our MAP Testing section below for more information about these important assessments and dates of administration.
If you have a child in Jackson's Dual Language Program, you are invited to attend a Dual Language Parent Information Night tomorrow, 8/27, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Jackson cafeteria. Plano ISD's Multilingual Academic Services Department will share the initiatives used to ensure your child's development in Spanish and English. We hope to see you there!
On Friday morning, August 30, at 7:00 a.m., PTA will host their first general meeting of the year. We hope you can come and meet our PTA President, Treasurer and other PTA members to hear more about the ways our PTA supports the students at Jackson. They need your help to continue providing programs that enhance our children's educational experience.
Next Monday, September 2, is a student/staff holiday and Jackson will be closed. We look forward to seeing our Jackson Jaguars back on Tuesday, September 3! We have a wonderful PTA Spirit Night at Cici's to look forward to on Wednesday, September 4. Have a wonderful 3-day weekend!
Thank you,

MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth Assessment at Jackson
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are excited to announce that students at Jackson will soon participate in the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth assessment. This important test is designed to help us understand your student's academic progress and guide their learning throughout the school year.
What is the MAP Growth Test?
The MAP Growth test is an adaptive assessment that measures your student's proficiency in key subjects such as reading, math, and science. Unlike traditional standardized tests, MAP Growth adapts to each student's learning level by adjusting the difficulty of questions based on their responses. This provides a more accurate picture of what your student knows and what they are ready to learn next. You may find more family resources on the NWEA MAP Family Toolkit webpage at https://www.nwea.org/family-toolkit/.
Why is the MAP Growth Test important?
MAP Growth results allow us to identify your student's strengths and areas for improvement. Teachers use these results to tailor their instruction to meet the needs of individual students, ensuring that every student is appropriately challenged and supported. Additionally, these results help track your student's academic growth over time, providing valuable insights for teachers and parents.
When will the MAP Growth Test be administered?
Jackson will be administering the MAP Growth test to all students during the upcoming dates:
● Reading MAP Test → August 26-28
● Math MAP Test → August 28-30
● Science MAP Test → September 3-5
How can you support your student?
● Ensure Rest and Nutrition - Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on testing days.
● Reinforce a Positive Attitude - Encourage your student to approach the test with confidence and a positive mindset.
● Discuss the Test - Let your student know that this test is just one of the many ways we assess their learning, and it's an opportunity to show what they know.
Thank you for your continued support in helping your student achieve their full potential! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Scott Riggle at (469) 752-2100.
Sincerely,
Scott Riggle

2024-2025 Transportation Updates
Important Message for ALL Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade Bus Riders/Families
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Bus Badge and Parent Placard: Parents with Pre-K, K and 1st Grade MUST follow this guideline and should see their campus for their badge and parent placard. Students will be returned to their home campus if the parent does not have this identification placard. This important safety procedure requires the parent/guardian/designee to have their Parent Placard that matches the Bus Badge on the student's backpack. This provides reassurance for parents that our students are matched with their guardian at the bus stop daily.
For all your school bus-related inquiries, please visit our dedicated Transportation web page on the school district’s Transportation website. Here, you will find essential resources, including:
Route Information: See our Route Finder to confirm your bus information. We recommend checking this the day before school to confirm any updates to your students' route information.
· Frequently Asked Questions: Answers to common questions regarding transportation policies and procedures.
· Bus Rules and Guidelines: Important safety information and behavior expectations for students while riding the bus. See our FAQ for specifics

"Attend Today to Succeed Tomorrow"
Regular attendance to school is so important to your student's success because when your child is at school every day, they are learning and growing! We need your help to ensure your student comes to school every day. You can help by making sure that your student goes to bed at a reasonable hour. If you are bringing your student to school, you will need to drop off your student between 7:00 - 7:30 so that they are prepared to start the day, otherwise, your student will be counted as tardy.
Unless they are sick, your student needs to come to school every day. If they are sick, then a note will need to be submitted on Skyward Family Access or turned into the office.
Please remember that Texas has attendance laws and there are consequences to not attending school regularly. See below for the state attendance laws:
Unexcused Absences (Full/Day or Parts of Days)- Education Code 25.093 and
Family Code 51.03
A violation of compulsory attendance occurs when a child has unexcused voluntary absences on 10 or more days or parts of days within a 6 month period.
Truancy Referral may be forwarded to the Truancy Office after all student and parent interventions have been done and student has ten (10) or more unexcused absences, and if a Warning Notice has been given to the parent/guardian/student.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can always contact the front office at (469) 752-2100.
Together, we can make it a great school year!"
Hello Jackson Families!
Jackson’s school and classroom libraries provide a diverse selection of library materials to inspire curiosity and a love for reading. While these materials support our educational goals, they are not part of the formal curriculum. Please take a moment to read the letter below outlining our staff’s role and your parental role in deciding what is an appropriate reading choice for your child. We value your feedback and look forward to working together to achieve your child’s learning goals.

PACE Referral Information
PACE provides services for students who require academically gifted enrichment services and have demonstrated the need for advanced, differentiated instruction. PACE at the elementary level is a weekly pull out program in which students are removed from the general education classroom to work under the guidance of a gifted specialist. The time spent in the PACE program will vary according to the grade level of the student. For more detailed information about the PACE program, please refer to the following link: https://www.pisd.edu/giftededucation
Students in K-5 are assessed in the first semester (fall) to determine placement in the second semester. District-wide CogAT tests administered to first, third and fifth grade students are part of the data used to determine the need for gifted services for these three grades. All other grades will be administered the district approved battery of PACE assessments in the fall.
Students may be referred for gifted services by teachers, parents, principals, counselors, or by the students themselves. Students are assessed at their home campus during the school day.
