Family Update
September 29, 2024
Greetings, Families,
Thank you to those who were able to join us this past week for our AVID Open House. If you were unable to attend, information shared at the event should have been posted or sent home. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you did not receive this information.
If you would you like to know more about what your child is learning this school year? Our district has provided many resources for families, including course overviews, that you can access online. Below, you will find links to access these resources:
CCPS Attendance Policy
Elementary school students who are absent from school in excess of 16 days may fail the grade. If advanced to the next grade, such student will be placed rather than promoted. (Regulations for determining grades may be found in the Grading and Reporting Policy IKAE-RA and IKAG-RD.)
The State of Maryland defines chronic absenteeism as missing 10% of school days (equivalent to 2 days a month or more) regardless of reason. This is the equivalent of missing more than 16 school days. Studies show that students who are not chronically absent perform better in all subjects (especially in mathematics) and are more likely to graduate than their peers who are chronically absent.
House Craft Day!
Parent involvement and collaboration is a crucial part of our educational community at Holly Hall Elementary. Thank you for all that you do to support student success!
Come learn about the House System here at HHES, and create a House craft with your child.
Please join us on October 15th from 8:00 - 8:45 a.m. to discuss ways for you to get involved in the House system at home and school. Be sure to RSVP using this link: RSVP Here!
Feed the Candy Monster!
Please help support our Trunk or Treat by sending in your favorite candy! If you include your child's name and teacher's name, that classroom will earn pirate coins for their class!
Supporting our public schools...
In the coming weeks there will be a number of important dates related to local elections in Cecil County. On 10/9/24, the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce will host a General Election Candidate Forum beginning at 6:00 PM at the Milburn Stone Theater. This event is free and open to the public. Candidates for County Executive, County Council, and the Board of Education will be speaking.
The cutoff for voter registration is 10/15/24. Please visit the Maryland State Board of Elections for more information or to register to vote.
On 10/22/24, the NAACP will host a candidate forum at Elkton High School beginning at 6:00 PM. All candidates for local office have been invited to participate.
Local elections have a significant impact on our schools. Please make an effort to learn about the candidates running for local office and support and vote for those that are committed to supporting public education in Cecil County!
